Her close friends included Van Gogh, Degas, and Renoir. As a sought-after model, Paris celebrated her - until she picked up the brush herself, at a time when art schools refused to accept female students.
"I had a hard time putting the book down to go to sleep at night." Kaela Mays
By the time Suzanne Valadon--a bastard from the tenements--was 15 years- old, she's been a horse walker, a milliner's assistant, a funeral wreath maker, and a circus acrobat, but that was just the beginning of her adventures. Here is her story, along with Ellie's, a modern woman a century later, at a crossroads of her life, who pulls Suzanne from the shadows of the past into the light.
"The absolute best book of the year." Denise McDonald

I have read both The Secret Life of Sunflowers and Girl Braiding Her Hair. DO NOT PASS ON THESE BOOKS! They are so interesting in the way they read. The author's use of history with fiction sprinkled in is amazing. I have thoroughly enjoyed both of them and hated to finish. Will read Raising the Titanic next. Can't wait to dive into it as I am a huge Titanic enthusiast! Please, please, Ms. Molnar, continue writing these types of novels. They are wonderfully entertaining and an absolute joy to read.
This book was so wonderful, moving by turns of soft and hard, heartwarming and heartbreaking. The characters are beautifully drawn; I could hear their voices and feel their emotions.
This book was such a great look into the life of the impressionist era. Once again excellent storytelling by Marta and this series has been my favorite read of the year.
If you like Hallmark Movies, you'll like this book - or at least half of it. The other half of the book, which was set in the past, was more interesting but the characters spoke with a contemporary vocabulary. I kept wanting the book to be better. I was genuinely interested in the female artist, which is why I bought the book.
A really good read. Marta Molnar is an excellent author. Highly recommend' as well as any of her other published works.
