"While packing a delightful punch of nostalgia, The Girl I Was delivers one of the most satisfying character transformations I've read in a while...Jeneva Rose's latest is witty and tender." --Shelby Van Pelt, New York Times bestselling author of Remarkably Bright Creatures
"With The Girl I Was, Jeneva Rose proves she's not just a master of thrillers, but also matters of the heart." --Colleen Oakley, USA Today Bestselling author of The Mostly True Story of Tanner & Louise
"If at first you don't succeed, try, try again."
Alexis Spencer will use any inspirational quote to rationalize her failures and shortcomings. Her closest friends are a distant memory, and her college debt is still as high as the day she left. But that's all fine and dandy, because "whatever will be, will be."
However, when Alexis loses her job and her relationship on the same day, there's no quote strong enough to get her through that. In typical fashion, she blames the world for her problems, including her younger self, who should have tried harder.
Feeling sorry for herself, Alexis finds a bottle of vodka from her college days and goes on a bender, blacking out in the process. Only this time, she doesn't wake up at home, or in the right city. In fact, she isn't even in the right year.
Alexis is back in her college town in the year 2002.
Convinced this is her chance to do things over, she heads to her dorm--and comes face-to-face with her eighteen-year-old unruly self, who goes by Lexi because it's "sexier." Getting acclimated to life in the early 2000s is the easy part. Dealing with Lexi is where things prove difficult.
They might be the same person, but they couldn't be more different from one another. Now Alexis and Lexi must learn to get along and come to terms with the fact that alone, they will never make things right, but together, they could change their life for the better.

Honestly picked up this book because it sounded cute and fun but it was so heartfelt and made me cry and was a beautiful story about connections and loving yourself and it was so incredibly sweet.
I loved this. I loved the ride. Overall, an easy read, but one of the few books to make me a bit emotional while reading.Alexis, 32 in 2016 and hitting rock bottom, drinks a strange wine and passes out after blaming her younger self for all her past transgressions. Upon awaking, she finds herself face to face with herself - as Lexi - in 2002. The two must work together to find a way to return Alexis to her right time, while also finding a way to improve their life. In the course of their short time together, they learn to open up to one another, and open their eyes to some tough truths about themselves. This book is a little piece of nostalgia, of therapy, of fun, and heart pulling moments. A quick read and simply written but clever and witty, The Girl I Was is a beautiful note to our past selves, to our current selves, and to our future selves. I'm so glad I read this, and this will proudly house a permanent space on my bookshelf. Give it a read - it felt like chicken soup on a rainy day, and I really did love it.

It's her chance to find her younger self and fix things. As Alexis and her younger self, Lexi, spend time together, Alexis learns about herself. This story follows Alexis and Lexias as they discover things about each other. This is a delightful story that will make you cry and laugh out loud. It's a good story that will Stay with me for a long time
I was lucky enough to get an advanced reader copy and still waited at my doorstep for my copy to arrive in publication dat I loved this book so much (and those sprayed edges!!!)Thank you📖 Book Review 📖 I’m a social worker so I was trained in the we listen and we don’t judge movement before it was even viral but I also am not supposed to diagnose or offer advice on people without their consent…but as this book is fictional and Alexis Spencer is not actually based in truth, I *think* I am in the clear to speak my truth in this review. While Alexis has a succulent that she entrusts her hopes and dreams of a successful career in and a litany of cliche optimistic quotes, her arrested development is rooted in unresolved wounds and perhaps some complex post traumatic stress disorder from her youth.Alcohol is never the solution. A very old bottle of vodka with a cryptic note about drinking to forget and then repeat is especially problematic. But listen, whatever was in that questionable bottle of vodka makes for one hell of a story and I am here for it. Waking up in a bed you don’t recognize: college behavior. Waking up in a decade you don’t recognize: next level storytelling. Healing from the past comes in many shapes and forms and for Alexis, this journey through magical realism to the past is one hilarious yet touching cathartic journey that I am thrilled to be along for. Please world, do not send me back to 2002 (or bring frosted tips back), but more healing and self-love would be great…and music from that era too.
This book is awesome! It’s funny and touching and honestly contains lessons we all need to learn! I don’t want to add any spoilers… so go read it😊
