Those dreams are dashed when he is murdered in his new office in Portland, Maine's Monument Square before the Hollywood contracts are signed. An investigation ensues, and detectives learn that, when Jon hired a producer who teamed up with a political money raiser and new attorneys, his dream turned into a nightmare. With a $400,000 key-man life insurance policy signed, a director's contract unsigned, and Hollywood contracts imminent, they knew Jon feared for his life.

I highly recommend this fast paced true crime book. Elly Stevens has a fluid writing style that kept me guessing as to whether my assumptions were correct on the outcome of the murder. The author obviously did a great deal of research and included summaries of the people involved and their connections.
I like true crime but don't normally gravitate to the written story. This book captured my attention immediately and I was able to finish it in two days. I find myself thinking of Jon and how trusting he was. I could feel myself back in time and could see it playing out in my head. The book is so well written and researched that you feel you know the individuals. Actually, I knew his wife from Pennwalt Pharmaceuticals and found her to be a nice person. I feel a sadness that I didn't know this story when I knew her. I highly recommend this book!
My brother recommended this book to me. He was a member of the Portland Police Department throughout, even participating some in the investigation. Read it in one day and finished it with so many thoughts and what if's, which really has affected me. I don't think I've ever finished a book and just wanted to be still and consider the whole thing. The book doesn't read like a novel. More, it's like a report. I appreciated that considering the story is true. Well documented and organized. Probably had more meaning for me as this all took place close to where I lived, but I believe it would be easy for any reader to appreciate.
I really thought that this was well done!I like the way the book was laid out and often found myself referencing the "List of Chief Actors" to make sure I knew who was whom.I read most of the book in one weekend which is so rare in my world, and I had no problem picking up where I left off as the list describing the characters was wonderful to refresh my memory where needed!Highly recommend!
Meticulously researched and written, this book sheds new light on a classic New England cold case sure to interest true-crime enthusiasts and anyone who loves a good mystery.
