I liked the book and can't wait for the next.

Heir of Stormsby Lauryn Hamilton MurrayStorm Weaver #1YA FantasyNG eARCAges: 14+Born into the most powerful fire-wielding family, Blaze is an outcast. Instead of summoning fire, the day she was born, she brought a storm that almost drowned the world. For seventeen years, she has been hidden away at her grandmother's home to protect her from those who wish revenge for the deaths she caused as a newborn. Her twin brother, though, is expected to become the next king of the fire wielders. Blaze, on the other hand, plans to escape into the other worlds on her eighteenth name day, but a day after her first public appearance, her storm singer mark glows, and with her brother, who's fire mark also glows, are whisked away to the Golden Palace to compete against others to claim the throne of the element they wield. But the power she almost destroyed the world with is gone; only a drizzle of rain remains. This book is similar to other 'game show' type books, and it grabs the reader really quickly. There are a lot of backstories/history drops, but most of them flow with the story, integrating smoothly with what is going on and why certain things are important. The only things I think are missing are a little more of Blaze's childhood and a little more depth to the world. This did remind me of the Hunger Games and H.P., but this had its own spin, and I enjoyed it. There was action, suspense, but the 'twist(s) at the end; one I had already guessed, and the other, I had the feeling something was off...Blaze is a great character, one who struggles with everyday life because of one event that she had no control over, which condemned her. Who can't relate to that!?There is violence and blood, but it's not that gory, and some other things that some may find offensive if they take it out of context. There is romance, but it is age-appropriate and not explicit, so it's suitable for readers fourteen and older.I liked the book and can't wait for the next.4 Stars

Avatar meets Red Queen

Fantastic read! Heir of Storms by Lauryn Hamilton Murray is a YA fantasy with elemental powers and a ruthless tournament to determine the heirs to the respective thrones. Blaze Harglade is the Storm Weaver, hidden away since the day she was born because she conjured a storm that drowned half the continent. Now, she’s 17 and declared a potential heir to Aquatori, the water kingdom. Together with her twin brother, Blaze is sent to the Golden Palace to compete with the other potential heirs to determine who will be crowned.I devoured this book. I could not read it fast enough. The magic system was easy to follow, and the tournament added some urgency to the plot. Blaze is a fun character to follow. The story is told entirely from her perspective as she navigates a world she is unfamiliar with. Her powers all but disappeared after the storm, and as a daughter of fire wielders, she was never trained to use her water. Now, she has to learn quickly if she hopes to survive the tournament. In addition to Blaze, we are introduced to her twin Flint, his friend Elaith, the crowned prince, the Earth Cleaver, and several others. I loved all of these characters. They are a great addition to the story and fully fleshed out. The potential heirs are divided into their respective kingdoms, one for each element: earth, wind, fire, and water. There are four heirs for each kingdom, and they will have to beat each challenge in order to be crowned. It’s intense as Blaze is hated by her fellow Aquatori. Her powers do not work like the others, but once she learns more about her powers, it’s fun to watch her use them.Overall, I highly recommend Heir of Storms. The story is easy to follow, fast-paced, and intriguing. Blaze’s need to learn her magic and quickly adds tension, while the other characters add depth. The whole mythology the author has created is, again, easy to follow but also fascinating. I could read a whole book on the world and not be bored. If you are looking for a new fantasy to dive into, I highly recommend this one.

Heir of Storms Review

I loved this book and can't wait for the 2nd one to come out. This is a fantasy about 5 relems that need new Heirs to take over, so they have a battle for all elements Earth Fire Wind Water and Light. Only those who can use their powers the best will win.But it is also a coming of age and found family too. Blaze and her brother are chosen to fight for both water and fire. Blaze, who has been locked up her whole life due to an event that happened when she was a baby, now must learn how to use her powers while also learning how to live outside of her palace home. For her whole life she has never been able to use her powers and no one understood why. Until she found that her powers are melded to her emotions. As she grows into her powers she is also making new friends and enemies. Will she win the crown? Will she fall in love with the Heir of the kindoms? I guess you will have to read it to find out.

Your Next YA Romantasy!

Heir of Storms is a really solid YA Romantasy! I liked the mystery behind some of the characters and how not all the revelations were easily guessed. It was also refreshing to read about a FMC who does have love interests but is focused on herself and her growth throughout the book.
