Nora has an unmistakable way with words as she tells her stories that pull you in from the very first page, no matter what genre she’s tackling. Her character development shines—as always—and it was such a treat getting to know Sloan and Nash, Theo and Drea, and even the lovable dogs and extended family members who brought the world of Heron’s Rest to life. Clara and Sam, whose presence as villains gave the story a bone-deep chill; they are haunting in all the right ways. While my heart belongs to Nora’s fantasy and paranormal stories, I truly appreciate the written “in-between” stories that blend genres and keep things fresh. Thank you, Nora, for another unforgettable read. You’ve done it again!
Sometimes you forget, but Nora Roberts is in a class all her own. This book made had me laughing, crying and wanting to reach into the pages and strangle the bad guys. I love to read and am a person that re-reads all the time. This will be one of my favorites.
Let’s start off with good stuff first. Nora developed solid protagonists which she usually does. I loved the family, the two sisters falling for the two brothers, and the wonderful two dogs. What I didn’t love was the two antagonists. They gave me the creeps so bad that I would have to take a break after reading scenes they were involved in before I could continue reading. I don’t know what it was about them that spooked me so bad , but they did. This a a good book. Well worth reading.
Nora Roberts is easy to.read. She creates interesting characters and gripping plots. Although she is often faulted for the sameness of her novels, Hidden Nature adds a richer context with the introduction of the Clara & Sam characters. Their warped religious values drive the action give thoughtful thematic richness to the novel. 🦀
Sloan is an officer with the NRP and riding a high when she's shot and critically injured. Not on the job, but in a mini mart after closing a case. She dies on the table and has an out of body experience that haunts her during and after she goes through the physical process of healing. She returns to her hometown and decides to stay there. Her journey of recovery and inner strength is beautiful. The ongoing mystery and suspense regarding the missing persons and their untimely ends is gripping. I would have liked to have seen more depth at the end when it comes to the real climax as it felt lackluster. But Sloan has more than proven herself to be a bamf woman in all areas of her life. The romance aspect with Nash is enjoyable and a natural progression over time. Another fantastic read by Nora. 5 stars!
