Introducing internationally bestselling author Bolu Babalola's dazzling debut novel, full of passion, humor, and heart, that centers on a young Black British woman who has no interest in love and unexpectedly finds herself caught up in a fake relationship with the man she warned her girls about
Sweet like plantain, hot like pepper. They taste the best when together...
Sharp-tongued (and secretly soft-hearted) Kiki Banjo has just made a huge mistake. As an expert in relationship-evasion and the host of the popular student radio show Brown Sugar, she's made it her mission to make sure the women of the African-Caribbean Society at Whitewell University do not fall into the mess of "situationships", players, and heartbreak. But when the Queen of the Unbothered kisses Malakai Korede, the guy she just publicly denounced as "The Wastemen of Whitewell," in front of every Blackwellian on campus, she finds her show on the brink.
They're soon embroiled in a fake relationship to try and salvage their reputations and save their futures. Kiki has never surrendered her heart before, and a player like Malakai won't be the one to change that, no matter how charming he is or how electric their connection feels. But surprisingly entertaining study sessions and intimate, late-night talks at old-fashioned diners force Kiki to look beyond her own presumptions. Is she ready to open herself up to something deeper?
A gloriously funny and sparkling debut novel, Honey and Spice is full of delicious tension and romantic intrigue that will make you weak at the knees.
"A smart, sexy summer read, which hits your brain and your romance buttons in one shot." -- Los Angeles Times
"The ultimate summer romance . . . It's got all the juiciest, most satisfying romance tropes, but in Babalola's capable hands, the story feels fresh and unique." -- The Cut, New York magazine
"Divine summer reading. Hilarious, hot, and heartfelt. " -- Meg Cabot, #1 New York Times bestselling author

I really enjoyed this story. When a man is truly interested, he will let you know. Period. I would love to read the sequel to see what happens to them maybe 5 years after graduation, or even after the summer.
Rating: β ββββThis was our bookclub book & when I tell you I dreaded picking it back up once I started .Then, when I did pick it up, I couldnβt wait for the chapter to be over ( I have to finish the chapter Iβm in) . I would just wander off .I even tried to listen to the audiobook , which was only slightly better. Why it got 1 βοΈ :β’ The FMC swore she wasnβt male-centered, but literally wasβ’ There wasnβt enough backstory on the things that matteredβ’ Who was the audience for this book?β’ The author was just throwing in things attempting at shock factor ( BORING )β’ Too wordyβ’ Try Hardβ’ Chapters were Too Longβ’ Not one character was likableβ’ The book did not flow . Therefore, made no sense ( and itβs not even a fantasy book )This book had so much potential, but it just felt like the author wrote this to appease some audience and I donβt know what audience. She over explained every small thing, but didnβt dig deep enough into the stuff that would actually help you connect to the characters and push the plot forward. I found it hard to connect to any of the characters. I love a good side character and even that wasnβt there. It just fell short on so many fronts. It was overdone and in the worst way! Book could have been 200 pages shorter .
Itβs about love and compromise. It touches base on not being able to understand your partner because of your own issues and being in your own head. I loved this book. Great read
βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ|πΆοΈThis has been on my TBR for years! I remember when KimmyBooks recommended it on her YouTube or IG and I was like βooo that sounds good to readβ. I finally got to read it for Book Club this month and absolutely enjoyed it!I was kicking my feet and laughing the WHOLE time! I love a fake dating trope, but this one was probably the BEST one Iβve ever read! 10/10!This book was extremely well written! I loved KiKi and Kaiβs character dynamic. I also enjoyed reading this in a London accent π€·π½ββοΈHOGHLY Recommend! Very light spice and suitable for mature 15+ π
