The latest from sensational writing duo Linda Keir, I Did Not Kill My Husband is a riveting thriller perfect for fans of None of This Is True by Lisa Jewell and Lucky by Marissa Stapley.
LA lifestyle influencer Cara Campbell is living the rags-to-riches dream with her plastic surgeon husband, Karl, and posting all about it on social media. But her happily ever after evaporates when she's given a life sentence for murdering Karl during a romantic getaway. All evidence points to her, and her platform--as an unabashed gold digger--makes her look guilty as hell. Karl's struggling business and million-dollar life insurance policy add plenty of motive. But the one thing Cara knows for sure is she didn't do it.
En route to the maximum-security prison where she'll begin serving her sentence, the armored transport vehicle is torn apart in a horrific collision that sparks a wildfire at the scene. Desperately seizing this unexpected chance at freedom, Cara flees into the Sierra Nevada Mountains armed only with a cracked phone she found on the highway.
Local sheriff Jordan Burke is first to respond and follows in hot pursuit. His desire to apprehend Cara is personal: he's vulnerable in the next election, and a quick capture will help his chances. But as the sensational case explodes in the headlines, he finds himself second-guessed at every turn by a noisy chorus of murderinos, internet sleuths, and podcasters--as well as his blowhard political opponent.
In the woods, Cara's flight for survival becomes a journey of discovery. Who killed Karl, and why? Was her marriage built on lies? And who is she, really, without her millions of followers?
As Jordan draws relentlessly closer, he, too, begins to question the truth. But to find the answers, he has to catch a fugitive ...

This book made me feel like I was on the run. My hair flying, my heartrate pounding, my legs trying to keep my feet from twisting on a root. If you want a fast paced, nerve-wracking, nail-biting read, this is the one for you. I was entertained throughout the entire book. There were a few things that had me saying, what now? I still devoured it, I was hooked. I had to figure out who actually killed Karl.Cara Campbell is on the transit bus to prison. She has been convicted of the murder of her husband, Karl. Her lawyer, the coroner, the police, all failed to find who killed him. They thought they had the case closed with Gold Digger Cara as the wife. Cara loved Karl with all of her being and this is just a slap in the face of justice. When the transit bus is involved in a horrible accident. Cara decides to run and take her chances in the Sierra Navada Mountains. She feels like a giant neon sign running in her bright orange jumpsuit and questionable smelling crocs. She keeps eluding the local sheriff, Jordan Burke. The cops and Marshalls in this book are made to look like it was their first day on the job. Pulling their guns on anyone, shooting, following their tails in circles. No wonder Karl's murder scene was never gone through properly. As the days begin to add up, will her luck run out?I loved the people Cara encountered while on the run. Fisk is my absolute favorite, with his animals trailing behind them. I cannot believe the amount of times Cara slipped around the law. I feel like I needed a nap after this book. I have to go to the gym to work on my stamina to keep up with the pace of this fun read.
4.5 rounded up. The FMC is a wealthy and famous influencer who was accused of murdering her husband. She escaped custody and the police chief is chasing after her for most of this cat and mouse story. I found both of these characters like able and easy to root for.The story is told in multiple points of view. This book was humorous in parts, which I was not expecting, but in a good way. You do have to suspend some belief at times, which I don’t mind when readers thrillers. I want to be thrilled!I enjoyed the true crime and podcaster element added to the story. I do wish the ending jumped a little farther into the future though. After rooting for the two main characters, I wanted more of a wrap up as I felt like it ended too abruptly.
I didn't expect to like the heroine but she quickly grew on me. She's kick ass, smart, and funny. This is a page turner that's fun and breezy to read but also a biting commentary on the mob mentality of social media.
It was exhausting. The first couple of chapters I was intrigued…a good cat and mouse game. A game that went on for a very painful (almost 500 pages). Things do not come together until there are about 20 pages remaining and at that point I was just praying it was about to end…(and I don’t pray).
Great story, with engaging suspense in the early and latter sections of the book. The middle bogs down somewhat with what I thought was too much focus on the secondary plot involving the sheriff, his family, and his other issues, which were far less compelling than the protagonist’s plight. I would have preferred a shorter book with less about the sheriff, his rival, his daughter, and his daughter’s friend – all of which pulls the reader away from the harrowing plight of the falsely convicted woman who’s fleeing for her life. I also had a hard time accepting that a Social Media star wouldn’t realize that logging into her Instagram account would be a dead giveaway as to her whereabouts or not immediately realizing that the location of any cell phone can be easily tracked. But the ending was terrific, and overall, it was a decent read.
