The end is nigh and the Prince of Darkness has just been offered one hell of a deal: reentry into Heaven for eternity--if he can live out a well-behaved life in a human body on earth. It's the ultimate case of trying without buying and, despite the limitations of the human body in question (previous owner one suicidally unsuccessful writer, Deelan Gunn), Luce seizes the opportunity to run riot through the realm of the senses. This is his chance to straighten the biblical record (Adam, it's hinted, was a misguided variation on the Eve design), to celebrate his favorite achievements (everything from the Inquisition to Elton John), and, most important, to get Julia Roberts attached to his screenplay. But the experience of walking among us isn't what His Majesty expected: instead of teaching us what it's like to be him, Lucifer finds himself understanding what it's like to be us.
By an author hailed by the Times Literary Supplement as one of Britain's top twenty young novelists, I, Lucifer is "a masterpiece...startlingly witty, original and beautifully written" (Good Book Guide).

this is my idea of what true literature is. this is the kind of book that makes you feel like you have spent your time doing something worthwhile. it is both entertaining and thought provoking, and i found myself having to stop reading to mull over an idea presented. the book is written in a high grade of english without coming across as pretentious or trying too hard. the words flow naturally, there is a great rythem and cadence to it, and it is a fun story. the main character's name is an anagram of the author's name, which i thought was a nice touch, and it is an interesting excercise in speculation of how lucifer might act and think. also, throughout the book, lucifer might say something, but being the father of lies, he always adds "oh, but i am only joking" and you don't know if he really is or is not, true to his nature. definatley worth reading. and i feel i have to add that anyone offended by this book (i don't see how you could be, but...) takes themselves too seriously and is missing a fundamental fact...this book is fiction, nothing more than story. you don't have to like it, it's not for everyone, but there is no need to take offence.
I really enjoyed this book! Told from the perspective of an outcast Lucifer, it's the story of his last chance to get back into heaven and is filled with humor and lots of pop culture references. You find yourself pulling for him towards the end.
Christmas gift for my granddaughter.
One of my all time favorite books. Funny, easy read and very entertaining! I read it at least twice a year.
Good Omens is one of my all-time favorite books. Thus the concept of Lucifer giving his version of events had great appeal.Unfortunately, although there are a number of excellent points about the book, including the delights of "wanking off" for the first 24 hours of luck feels experiment with in having a human body, one is left after awhile with a sense of needing a plot device in addition to the rather no story of the king of Hell spending a month in asuicide's body. I kept waiting for the something more to happen. It didn't.
