Book had a bit of a weird smell but over all came in great condition. Super good read, love Jennette.
An interesting take on Jennette's life of fame and her battles against certain obstacles. A good read.
This book is important for people who've been abused by a narcissistic or borderline personality disordered parent.Or anyone who was enmeshed and manipulated ir parentified by a parent.Parents like this teach their child from the very beginning that it's the child's job to emotionally regulate the parent. The child isn't allowed to have boundaries, and is forced to follow the parent's script for who that child has to be - the parent's vision of who the child is.The child grows up as a mirror of the parent's wishes and has no idea who they really are. They learn to numb their own emotions and just give the parent a reflection back of what the parent requires. This abuse is insidious because the child doesn't know anything is wrong. The parent tries to keep the child dependent so they never leave the parent. There are few books that describe this kind of abuse accurately, so this book has hit the survivors of borderline or narcissistic parent's hard - in a great way. It's a relief to realize one's own story isn't unique. This story resonates so hard. It's a triumph and inspiration to see how the author is overcoming the years of abuse and discovering her own true self.I hope she continues to write!
I loved this book. A page turner. Jenette, your a better person then me. I'm glad my mom died too, and I hate to say it but moms get even worse then this (the narcissists who wants her daughter to fail). But how you kept LOVING your mother through all that happened is beyond me. It's important for people to understand that not all mothers are saints so I think this is a really powerful book, especially for children of Narcissists. "Visit my grave every day when I'm gone!?" Watching the cancer video every week!? WTF!!! Write your screenplay girl, we're rooting for you.
Bought this book for a secret Santa event within my friend group. I had zero idea what it is about but somehow found the title relatable. The friend seemed to like it a lot. Maybe I'll give it a read.
