The spellbinding classic that started it all, from the #1 New York Times bestselling author--the inspiration for the hit television series
"A magnificent, compulsively readable thriller . . . Rice begins where Bram Stoker and the Hollywood versions leave off and penetrates directly to the true fascination of the myth--the education of the vampire."--Chicago Tribune
Here are the confessions of a vampire. Hypnotic, shocking, and chillingly sensual, this is a novel of mesmerizing beauty and astonishing force--a story of danger and flight, of love and loss, of suspense and resolution, and of the extraordinary power of the senses. It is a novel only Anne Rice could write.

The best of her works, the rest were good but slowly went down hill. I, as we're many, shocked at the idea or the movie due to who played Lestat. But it was great except the added ending was silly.
Good story, I like my vampires unsparkly and sexy. Z z z z z z z z z z x
First off, Rice is incredibly talented in her writing and description. The storyline does a very good job developing the main character and describing the inner complexities he constantly wrestles with, as well as deeper human implications such as the beauty in mortal life and the dullness immortality can surrender. She gives all of the characters such depth as I have read from very few authors. Thoroughly enjoyed this read. The ONLY reason I gave it 4 stars was because I found it strange/ uncomfortable some of the descriptions written concerning children leaning the direction of pedophilia (this could also be debated or up to individual perception)
I love this book. As of this review, I have just read it again for the third time. The first time was right when it first came out decades ago. Then again, in the late 90's. And now. I never read books over and over. Except this one. Brilliant. Revealing. And oh so delightful.
Her words are like poetry. I envy the person who knows nothing of the vampire chronicles being introduced. Love the gothic style. Not a scary read but as Anne Rice said, it’s made like the film “Draculas Daughter” where through the eyes of someone immortal can see this as a curse on top of the “food chain” as opposed to others as a blessing. Not scary for those who scare easy but keep in mind the “other kinds” of vampires. Not gory. More psychological and intriguing but I know this books and story so long so well. It needs to be compared to something and reviewed not as a fan but so people know what they’re getting into if they would be interested in being introduced or not. For me I always loved it. Amazing.
