Britain burns. The war grinds south. And the fight for survival is about to get personal.
As brutal combat sweeps through northern England, Eddie Novak and his unit infiltrate enemy lines to help a desperate comrade make it home. But the village they return to has been overrun by collaborators and warlords-violent men who rule through fear ... and prey on the innocent. Including children.
Now, Eddie and his team must launch a daring rescue operation into the heart of a hostile city. The odds are slim. The stakes are personal. But failure isn't an option.
Meanwhile, deep within the caliphate's inner circle, a power struggle brews-one that could ignite a global nuclear war.
Across shattered front lines, death is constant. Hope is fleeting. And every decision could be the one that ends it all.

Very much enjoyed this second book, but, would like to know how the character 's from the first book got on, I can only wait for the next book to see what happens.
The second in the invasion series is fast paced and unrelenting. You are invested in the characters and need to see how things turn out. It really does keep you turning the pages. Excellent book.
A fast-paced and entertaining thriller to follow up from the first one. D. C. Alden doesn't overburden his readers with unnecessary detail as some writers of military fiction do, although this is more than just military fiction. He uses just the right amount of characters to spread the POV, without overdoing it. It doesn't really matter that none of these characters are very deeply explored. The elephant in the room is that this isn't a self-contained story; it ends part way through. It should be stated clearly in the blurb to warn the reader that it is a quarter of a story and that further purchases will be required to complete it. I nearly docked a star for that. However, for the undemanding reader, it's an exciting thriller about a scary scenario that provides great entertainment.
I've really enjoyed this series. Great characters, great action and a frightening plausible scenario. DC Alden should be a mainstream writer. My favourite characters are Harry Beecham the British Prime Minister and Bertie Payne, a British resistance operative who constantly gets himself into situations he cannot get out of. Britain's fightback against the Invaders is well written and the series ending brings a lump to the throat when Harry honours the Fallen in the Liberation of Britain. All in all I've loved this series. It's a shame we never see what happened to Ross, Lara and Faz as they're never heard from again after the events in Downfall. This is a fantastic series and it is great to see the Brits fight back. Well done, Mr Alden!
Great read! Lots of different threads of stories in this one, author keeps em going really well! Invasion of a occupied Britain.
