#1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jewell brings her "thrilling, chilling" (Chris Whitaker) suspense to this shocking new thriller about a lost dog, a missing woman, and a house of long buried secrets.
Jane Trevally is walking her dogs on her country estate one May afternoon when a small white dog appears. The teenaged girl that had been staying nearby with the dog is nowhere to be found, and Jane decides to return it to his registered owner hours away in London, in the deepest backwaters of Hampstead. But when Jane arrives, she is immediately unsettled--because she has a dark history with this house.
The man who answers the door tells her the dog, Hugo, must have been stolen from the Heath, but Jane very much doubts that is true. Through the window, she catches a glimpse of a haunted-looking woman, not the missing girl she'd hoped to find.
Facing a crossroads similar to the one that first led her to this home twenty-five years ago, Jane knows that the house holds the key--to the missing teenager, to the lost dog, and to dark secrets they'd all rather leave buried.

I absolutely loved this book! Lisa Jewell is my favorite author. I thoroughly enjoy her style of writing. I love that she does not go into tons of detail about scenery. She told the story beautifully. It was a true page turner that I could not put it down. Excellent story and character development. I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a great mystery. I hated when it was coming to an end.
Excellent -Could not put it down!!! A definite read if you're into crime!! Lisa Jewell has another winner!
Murder mysteries have changed for the worse .Why would anyone want to write about sordid fictitious stories like "It Could Have Been Her."
I have listened to 6 hours of this with 4 hours left. I just cannot finish it. I have listened to several LJ books which I have really enjoyed, but I do not remember them having this much terrible language. I can handle some of this, but this is just TOO much. I guess it adds to the dark, grittiness of the story, but I would prefer the story be told without this much. I believe the story itself is good, but I'm not interested enough in the outcome to keep listening. In my case, a waste of a good credit.
I could not put this book down. Lisa Jewell is a genius in thriller and suspense. When a small white dog wanders onto Jane Trevaly’s land, history collides with the present, and spurs her into action to investigate the people and happenings behind closed doors of a familiar Victorian house in the Vale of Health. As she investigates, she realizes just how narrowly she escape an incredibly dangerous situation. It Could Have Been Her is a haunting story of generational trauma, dark family secrets and how one decision altered the lives of multiple people. This is one of those books that gave me chills, and left me absolutely stunned. I will be reading this book again and again.
