"Seventeen-year-old Lily Hu can't remember exactly when the question took root, but the answer was in full bloom the moment she and Kathleen Miller walked under the flashing neon sign of a lesbian bar called the Telegraph Club. America in 1954 is not a safe place for two girls to fall in love, especially not in Chinatown. Red-Scare paranoia threatens everyone, including Chinese Americans like Lily. With deportation looming over her father--despite his hard-won citizenship--Lily and Kath risk everything to let their love see the light of day."--

I loved this book and highly recommend it!
Nice read
I’m an old, white gay man from the Deep South. I wasn’t sure I’d be interested in a book about a Chinese American teenage woman when there are so many other queer books I could be reading. But of course a good writer can make a specific experience something universal. That's the main reason for reading any book. The story is beautifully written. And unfortunately all too relevant in our increasingly xenophobic and homophobic environment. It’s long and rather slow moving but fascinating and gripping every moment. There are already so many reviews of the book that there’s no need for me to elaborate at greater length. Highly recommended.
Great book about a young girl coming of age in the 1950s and discovering her sexuality. It's a YA book, but also enjoyable for adults.
Lovely book!
