THE INSPIRATION FOR THE PEACOCK TV SERIES STARRING AMANDA SEYFRIED
ONE OF BARACK OBAMA'S FAVORITE BOOKS OF THE YEAR--BY THE AUTHOR OF THE GOD OF THE WOODS
AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - A GOOD MORNING AMERICA BOOK CLUB PICK
Two sisters travel the same streets, though their lives couldn't be more different. Then one of them goes missing.
In a Philadelphia neighborhood rocked by the opioid crisis, two once-inseparable sisters find themselves at odds. One, Kacey, lives on the streets in the vise of addiction. The other, Mickey, walks those same blocks on her police beat. They don't speak anymore, but Mickey never stops worrying about her sibling.
Then Kacey disappears, suddenly, at the same time that a mysterious string of murders begins in Mickey's district, and Mickey becomes dangerously obsessed with finding the culprit--and her sister--before it's too late.
Alternating its present-day mystery with the story of the sisters' childhood and adolescence, Long Bright River is at once heart-pounding and heart-wrenching: a gripping suspense novel that is also a moving story of sisters, addiction, and the formidable ties that persist between place, family, and fate.
"[Moore's] careful balance of the hard-bitten with the heartfelt is what elevates Long Bright River from entertaining page-turner to a book that makes you want to call someone you love." - The New York Times Book Review
"This is police procedural and a thriller par excellence, one in which the city of Philadelphia itself is a character (think Boston and Mystic River). But it's also a literary tale narrated by a strong woman with a richly drawn personal life - powerful and genre-defying." - People
"A thoughtful, powerful novel by a writer who displays enormous compassion for her characters. Long Bright River is an outstanding crime novel... I absolutely loved it."
--Paula Hawkins, #1 New York Times-bestselling author of The Girl on the Train

Loved this novel! It kept up the suspense and varied perspectives. I have since purchased two of her other novels.
Too many unresolved/open issues. Areas, people touched upon in this book and you were left hanging. Otherwise it had a good message.
⸻This was a really strong, memorable read. It tackles some very heavy themes—sex work, addiction, homelessness, abuse, and police corruption—so it’s not light reading, but it’s handled with depth and care. What stood out most to me were the relationships and the characters. I especially liked Mickey. She’s a fantastic protagonist—funny, flawed, tough, and deeply human. Her determination to find her sister, despite everything it costs her, really drives the story and keeps you invested.Philadelphia also feels like a character in its own right. I’ve never been, but the setting is so vivid and immersive that it adds another layer to the story. At its core, it’s a gripping mystery involving murdered sex workers, but it’s not just a typical thriller. It stays with you. This isn’t just an escapist read—you’ll be thinking about it long after you finish. The ending won’t let you off easily. It took me a little while to get into at the start, but once it picked up, I couldn’t put it down. Definitely worth it.
I usually never do reviews, but I do read them. I very much enjoy this authors work and how you almost seem to know these fictional characters she creates. I chose this book " Long Bright River " and was not disappointed. The people and events feel real and stay with you long after you are finished reading it. I read this on a Kindle, the are no pictures. In the acknowledgments at the back of the book it mentions thanks for the photographs taken of the neighborhood depicted in the book. Assuming there may be photographs in the physical copy of the book, but I can't be certain. Regardless, a very good read. Easy 5 stars. I'll be looking for more of her work.
Great book!
