From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Starts with Us and It Ends with Us comes a passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance.

At twenty-two years old, Sydney is enjoying a great life: She's in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers that Hunter is cheating on her--and she's forced to decide what her next move should be.

Soon, Sydney finds herself captivated by her mysterious and attractive neighbor, Ridge. She can't take her eyes off him or stop listening to the passionate way he plays his guitar every evening out on his balcony. And there's something about Sydney that Ridge can't ignore, either. They soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one.

this book absolutely touched my heart

This book literally touched and gutttedddd my heart. Iknew they were gonna end up falling for each other and i was so worried ridge really wouldnt leave maggie and then iknewww maggie was sick and would eventually die and then i was worried she would die and ridge and sydney would never be together ! Worse than that- after ridge and sydney kissed i thought theyd never be able to overcome the guilt and shame to be together. I turly loved sydney and ridge and even maggie. Even warren ! I loved this book.

Being deaf is certainly not a handicap!

This book was phenomenal. It makes you understand about being deaf. It was an absolutely great book to read and see what love really means. It crosses the two worlds together. It is so rich in emotions and so understanding of how the worlds come together. It is definitely a great read.

Too-long, too emotional story is told from inside characters' heads (SPOILERS)

I am fascinated with why Hoover's books are so popular and after reading this one I still don't know. This is told in first person and we are in Sydney, the main character's head, most of the time. There is no distance from her thoughts and feelings, and she thinks and feels a lot. She finds out that her boyfriend, an accountant (poor accountants, always portrayed as jerks) is cheating on her with her roommate. Trite, but luckily we get rid of Hunter early in the book. That Sydney did not pick up any vibe on this is not quite believable. But once she finds out, her life is over, she is left in the rain and homeless. This sets the stage for Ridge, the handsome creative musician, she only knows by sight and through texting, who rescues her. The story takes off from there. Coincidentally, Sydney is a music major so she appreciates his talent and discovers her lyric-writing talent. Voila, they have much in common besides an electric attraction to each other. But it wouldn't be a story unless there were complications: Ridge has a girlfriend. The characters' emotions are on full display. Longing, hope, joy, creativity etc.Cons:-I found it tiring to be inside their heads, and reading thoughts and the text messages throughout 400 pages. Could have been cut in half-There is little relief from the central drama between Ridge and Sydney. It is discussed, thought about, and cried about through the entire book-That Sydney does to his girlfriend thing that was done to her is disturbing, but apparently the attraction was too strong to resist.-There is minimal description of what anyone looks like or where they are.The characters are very young, 22 for Sydney, 24 for Ridge, maybe this story appeals more to that age group, but I found it unrealistic, melodramatic and too long.
