Some extraordinary rats come to the aid of a mouse family in this Newbery Medal Award–winning classic by notable children’s author Robert C. O’Brien.
Mrs. Frisby, a widowed mouse with four small children, is faced with a terrible problem. She must move her family to their summer quarters immediately, or face almost certain death. But her youngest son, Timothy, lies ill with pneumonia and must not be moved. Fortunately, she encounters the rats of NIMH, an extraordinary breed of highly intelligent creatures, who come up with a brilliant solution to her dilemma. And Mrs. Frisby in turn renders them a great service.

What a wonderful story. My boys 6 and 8 at the time, loved me reading this to them before bed each night. I loved the story also and could not wait for bedtime to get to a new chapter. We were bummed when it was over. They are 28 and 30 now and still have fond memories of our readings. This was one of their favorites. I recently purchased it for a children's book drive!
Quick delivery and fantastic book
Excellent story. I read it as a child and it still enchanted me all these years later. I will never stop recommending this book for young and old.
this edition has a few typos, but otherwise great. always wanted to read the original book as a fan of the movie. book goes more in depth to the rats' backstory, which i really enjoyed.
I've of course seen Mr Bluths spectacular animated adaption which had a mystical and magical aesthetic to it. And after revisiting The Silver Crown by the same author, I figured it was time to read the book version. Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimh is more grounded than the movie, but also more philosophical. Jeremy repaying a good deed. The Owl knowing the day will come, but being stoic. Nicodemus and the rats aspiring to be more noble because they've been given the ability to become so if they choose. I very much enjoyed the read, and I expect that adults and children alike will enjoy this as well.
