Series Info/Source: This is the 3rd volume in the Night Eaters series. I bought this in hardback.Thoughts: This was a really well done continuation to this amazing contemporary fantasy/horror graphic novel series.Strange things are happening across the world triggered by the Ting twins accidentally tearing a hole in the fabric of the universe. Billy has been doing his best to help in LA by volunteering to help others. As Milly awakes from a coma, she is also determined to fix things. However, their parents know something that they don't...powerful forces are at play, and things will never be the same as they were.Love, love, love the amazing illustration throughout; as always, Takeda-san nails it. The illustration is detailed and beautiful and does an amazing job conveying both the story and character emotion. The color palette is muted and beautiful. Always love just looking at any book illustrated by Takeda-san.The story is also amazing and gets very epic in this book. Sadly, I didn't have time to re-read the previous two volumes before jumping in to this one. However, this was pretty easy to pick up and follow. There are a number of cosmic forces at play in this story, which makes it epic in scope. This is also a lot of fun to read; the characters are always making jibes at each other and have fun witty comebacks. Love all the DnD and other fantasy/sci-fi references throughout. The characters are amazing and have grown a lot throughout this series. We learn a lot more about the background around Milly/Billy's parents in this book and finally learn what they are and how they became to be such forces to be reckoned with. Their mother has been fairly distant throughout the series, but in this book, we really get to learn about her and see more of who she is.This was a perfect conclusion to the series, and if you enjoyed the previous two books I think you will enjoy this one as well. I loved that this was such a well-done series that was completed in a timely way. I am still reading Monstress as well and I feel like that series is never going to end (I mean, I like it but I would like some closure around the story at some point). My Summary (5/5): Overall I loved this and think it does an amazing job of wrapping up the Night Eaters series. The illustration is phenomenal, the story is well done, complex but still easy to follow, and I loved how the characters grew throughout the series. This is a fun dark contemporary fantasy graphic novel that I enjoyed a lot. I also just really loved this whole series overall. I will continue to pick up any graphic novels by this amazing duo.
Brilliant, dark, and deeply funny, this was a phenomenal end to a phenomenal series. Definitely one I can see myself visiting again and again.
Marjorie Liu is a master at examining the human elements in extraordinary circumstances. Her writing paired with Sana Takeda’s gorgeous art flesh out a world all too familiar, providing hope that we too may find a hopeful future. My only complaint being that I wish we had more of their perspective to take in.
