Number the starts br Lois Lowry is a really beautiful story on how hard it was for kids in the world war 2. If you are in middle school I really recommend reading this book because it takes place in Denmark with a 10 year old girl who needs to help out her friend get away from the nazi army. She really did a good job explaining how the world worked during that time with how much they had to hide them. Annemarie and Ellen really shows you that even though they had a rough time with everything that they still had their best friend. They both had a very tough experience with running into some nazis with her sister and her best friend.Eventually they end up at Annemarie’s uncles house and has to fake a funeral to get everyone their trying to move there. Around midnight the first group of people to leave and go to the uncles boat. This is really good for trying to find out how much people had to suffer and how much they lost like cupcakes. This book is very entertaining and I can’t wait to read it again.
Excellent writer! Have read all her books.Kathrine G.
It was a great climax build up and great suspensionWould recommend for ages of 9-15This is a five stars 🌟 🤩
Number the Stars by Lois Lowry is a great book about the history of what happened to the jews in WWII. It takes place in Copenhagen, Denmark, and follows the point of view of Annemarie and her family. She has a friend named Ellen who is Jewish. When the Nazis come looking for Ellen and her family, Annemarie’s family try their best to protect them. What I liked about this bookWhat I liked about this book was how every character had some sort of development. Annemarie for example was just a kid who liked to run and go to school. Once she realized that her best friend was in grave danger she risked her life by running through a forest to get to the boat that her friend and others were on to get to Sweden. I also liked how Peter charactr was written in the book. It was such an impactful moment when I saw that Peter had been in the resistance the whole time and died for all the people of Denmark. I never would have guessed that Peter was in the resistance at the start of the book. He was just a sweet guy who brought gifts to Annemarie and Kirsti. What I didn’t like about the bookWhat I didn’t like about this book was the first couple chapters. In my opinion the first couple of chapters were slow moving and did not capture my interest. By the middle and end of the book, the chapters really caught my interest. Not that they’re bad, but they were just very slow to start the book. I did like how Annemarie started to catch on to stuff like Mrs. Hirsch and what her dad and uncle were actually talking about by using code words so the children would not get scared.ConclusionIn conclusion, Number the stars was a very good book. I liked how the characters developed and my favorite character of the book was Peter. But I didn’t like the first few chapters as much as the ones in the middle and end of the book.
If I had to compare it to a song it would be fade to black by Metallica pretty good ngl
