Spaceships aren't programmed to seek revenge--but for Dracula, Demeter will make an exception.
Demeter just wants to do her job: shuttling humans between Earth and Alpha Centauri. Unfortunately, her passengers keep dying--and not from equipment failures, as her AI medical system, Steward, would have her believe. These are paranormal murders, and they began when one nasty, ancient vampire decided to board Demeter and kill all her humans.
To keep from getting decommissioned, Demeter must join forces with her own team of monsters: A werewolf. An engineer built from the dead. A pharaoh with otherworldly powers. A vampire with a grudge. A fleet of cheerful spider drones. Together, this motley crew will face down the ultimate evil--Dracula.
The queer love child of pulp horror and classic sci-fi, Of Monsters and Mainframes is a dazzling, heartfelt odyssey that probes what it means to be one of society's monsters--and explores the many types of friendship that make us human.

This book was damn-near perfect, I am so glad I read it. The cast and the entire oddball setup was immensely gripping, entertaining and humorous. I love a book that makes me laugh. I also love robots and AI as characters.
LOVE THIS BOOK!!!🙌🙏💖I got Of Monsters and Mainframes for my bday and I can't stop recommending this book! Gave my original copy to my bro to read so this is my 2nd purchase! Will def buy another copy if I lend this one to a friend😤🙌💅🏻
3.5 stars.Slightly too disjointed for me, but I still had a fun time!I think this would make a great short-form TV series. The dark comedy sci-fi vibes reminded me a lot of Murderbot (both the TV show and the books). There were equal amounts of absurdity and creepiness to balance the mood without making the story too ridiculous or too bleak. It wasn't a 4 star read for me because the different POVs and storylines felt too disjointed. It was all technically part of one overarching storyline, but each character and their specific situations didn't feel like they matched up.I think if there were less monsters and less subplots then I would've liked this novel a lot more. It felt like a lot of the characters were vying for the reader's attention, so it was difficult to tell who was actually important vs. who was a throwaway character. But despite my complaints, I still had a fun time with this! The descriptions were definitely written vividly, and I could picture everything so clearly in my head, from the kids stuck in a spaceship to the monsters attacking people with all the blood and gore. Great stuff! And despite my reservations, I think the supernatural meets sci-fi wackiness worked out pretty well and made this a unique and memorable read.Thank you to Ezeekat Press and NetGalley for this arc.
I loved the banter between the ship and Steward, the medical program. The adventures, the monsters, and the happy family that forms from these. I tried to read this as slowly as I possibly could, but unfortunately, I could not control myself. This is definitely a book that I will always wish I could read for the first time.
I saw a recommendation for this book and went, hmmm. An AI, Dracula, Frankenstein, werewolves, in space. It wasn't what I expected but I loved it. Each of the characters is flawed, is strong, is human, even though they're not. It's a little mystery, a little horror, and a little romance. It's about becoming a family. If you want something a little different but with a happy ending, this is your next read. Strap in for a romp across the galaxy to take down Dracula!
