In Five Years meets a millennial The Joy Luck Club in the adult debut from the author of YA Reese Pick Throwback-- a funny and fresh love story of a woman thrown a curveball by fate, and the family secret that will make her question everything.
She knows what her happily ever after looks like. And it's not him.
Cassia Park believes in soul mates. Fated love stories. It's her family business, after all--for centuries, from Korea to Los Angeles, Park women have peered into clients' past lives to find their one true love, their fated. This magical secret is why One & Only Matchmaking has a 100% guarantee...for everyone but Cassia.
For ten years, Cass has been searching for her fated, a man named Daniel Nam. But he's still nowhere to be found.
And so, on the eve of her 40th birthday, Cass decides to do something for herself. She impulsively has a fling with Ellis. He's twenty-eight, indecently handsome, and not destined to be the love of her life. But she's surprised by their connection and their fling feels like something more--up to the moment he introduces her to his boss...Daniel Nam.
As she battles between fate and chance, head and heart, a family secret is revealed that will make her question everything she's ever known. Cassia will have to decide if she'll follow her fate...or make her own.

This was a cute read. Reminded me of The Phoenix Pencil Factory due to the strong magical generational powers. Really liked the FMC and Ellis..
What started out as a promising fantastical love story, turned into an exhaustingly repetitive emotional love triangle. The main character’s behavior became increasingly off putting to me, coming across as immature and somewhat unlikeable. “His slutty little glasses” - seriously? What woman, especially a woman in her 40s, talks like this? None that I know.****SPOILER**** Also, I really struggled with the whole idea that they couldn’t find her fated for 10 years just because he had an additional name hyphenated onto his last name. He had a successful landscaping business in the area, and you’re telling me nothing came up on Google when searching the first portion of his name? Incredibly unbelievable.I did enjoy the parts that explored her family dynamics and Korean heritage, but that wasn’t enough to win me over with this book.
Love this one
A wonderful read! A real treat--highly recommended!
The writing, in its simplicity, flows by pleasantly well, too bad for the overuse of slang. And I absolutely LOATHED the unnecessarily detailed listing of designer brands attached to every piece of clothing. Far too much!I was glad to see an FMC in her forties, but found myself disappointed by some of her choices and perspectives… more often than not, she behaves with the impulsiveness of a much younger girl, creating a discrepancy with the image of a strong, independent, no-nonsense woman. The epilogue redeemed the book in my eyes.I switched back and forth between the ebook and audiobook, and I must say I really appreciated the narrator.
