"One of Latin America's most exciting authors."--Silvia Moreno-Garcia
A young father and son set out on a road trip, devastated by the death of the wife and mother they both loved. United in grief, the pair travel to her ancestral home, where they must confront the terrifying legacy she has bequeathed: a family called the Order that commits unspeakable acts in search of immortality.
For Gaspar, the son, this maniacal cult is his destiny. As the Order tries to pull him into their evil, he and his father take flight, attempting to outrun a powerful clan that will do anything to ensure its own survival. But how far will Gaspar's father go to protect his child? And can anyone escape their fate?
Moving back and forth in time, from London in the swinging 1960s to the brutal years of Argentina's military dictatorship and its turbulent aftermath, Our Share of Night is a novel like no other: a family story, a ghost story, a story of the occult and the supernatural, a book about the complexities of love and longing with queer subplots and themes. This is the masterwork of one of Latin America's most original novelists, "a mesmerizing writer," says Dave Eggers, "who demands to be read."

So this has become one of my favorite books! It started slow but everything came back in the end. It haunted me after it ended. I loved the way it felt like a bunch of people's diaries.
Unbelievably good. Marianna Enriquez is a master. This book is dark and not for everyone but I loved every word. Its slow but so worth it.
I’m have read many genres of books But this novel is unbelievably unique. Ms Enriquez descriptions of unworldly events, some quite disturbing (not for the faint of heart) drew me in like no novel ever has, I did not want the story to end. Basically it revolves around a wealthy privileged family / group who worship the darkness in hopes of immortality, which requires the endless search for the perfect medium to accomplish this. Hence Juan is found with the abilities they’ve long searched for. But Juan with his failing health refuses to be part of this & uses all the powers he has to defy the blackness this cult worships. Ms Enriquez’s words are so descriptive you’re able to envision the characters along with the darkness. Pray that the evil characters described will never exist in our world. I look forward to reading more of Ms Enriquez’s books.
Obviously I enjoyed the book… Many places were just fill I skipped over and others were pure magic. One of the few 5 stars I have given.
The story is long and took me about 2 months to finish ( I only had time to read before bed and on my lunch break), but it was something I looked forward to. There are no chapters, only sections, and only about 5 or 6 sections. There are different points of view and decades within the story. I liked the storyline about Gaspar and his friends when they were young and their venture into the house, but my mind wandered from time to time. The most interesting parts for me were about The Order and the Darkness. I read a lot of horror fiction and sometimes get bored of the predictable storylines. Although I predicted the very end of Our Share of Night, it was everything in between that kept me interested.
