Oh, what a deliciously tangled web Lucy Foley weaves! The Paris Apartment is a moody, intoxicating romp through the shadowy corridors of an elegant yet ominous Parisian building. Imagine Clue, but with croissants, suspicious neighbours, and secrets stacked higher than the Eiffel Tower.Told in rotating perspectives (like an emotional game of musical chairs), this audiobook kept me guessing until the very last breath. Jess is the perfectly flawed protagonistβa bit of a mess, wholly relatable, and determined to uncover what happened to her slippery half-brother Ben. And the neighbours? Positively crawling with red flags, each more enigmatic and unnerving than the last. Thereβs an almost Hitchcockian elegance to the way Foley builds suspense with every passing chapter.Clare Corbett and the ensemble of narrators are utterly sublime. The performance adds layers of tension and charm that make it feel like youβre eavesdropping through keyholes and whispering through wine glasses. In short: Read it. Listen to it. Then double-lock your doors and side-eye your neighbours. The Paris Apartment is a riveting, glamorous, and sinister delight.Bravo, Lucy Foley. Youβve done it again.
A fabulous who done it! Loved the array of characters and you will too. Itβs a real page turner till the very end. Try it!
I really love this book! Full of mystery that had me guessing until the very end, though there was one twist I did not see coming! Crazy how I was so right about one thing and taken completely by surprise at the end.Age-wise, Iβd say 17+There is strong language used throughout, and minor mention of sex, though it doesnβt get into it and kinda fades-to-black; but there are more adult themes in this novel so I wouldnβt consider it for youth. But thatβs just my personal opinion.
One of those books where I kept looking at how much was left and thought βoh God thereβs still moreβ. Not an exciting story. No likeable characters. Finished the book as if it were a plate of steamed broccoli when in fact I wanted dessert
This atmospheric thriller masterfully weaves together mystery and psychological suspense in the heart of Paris. Set in a grand but weathered apartment building in a chic arrondissement, the story follows Jess, who arrives in Paris to stay with her half-brother Ben, only to find him mysteriously missing. The building's eccentric residents - each harboring their own secrets - become both potential allies and suspects as Jess delves deeper into her brother's disappearance. The author excels at creating a palpable sense of unease, using the apartment building itself as a character. The ornate yet decaying structure, with its hidden passages and shadowy corners, perfectly mirrors the layers of deceit uncovered throughout the narrative. The dual timeline structure is particularly effective, gradually revealing how past events connect to present-day mysteries. The characterization is rich and nuanced - from the enigmatic concierge to the wealthy antiques dealer upstairs, each resident feels fully realized rather than merely suspicious. The prose captures both the glamour and the gritty underbelly of Paris, avoiding typical tourist clichΓ©s while still evoking a strong sense of place. While some plot threads could be more tightly woven, and certain revelations might strike seasoned mystery readers as predictable, the overall atmosphere and psychological tension maintain engagement throughout. The pacing occasionally slows in the middle sections, but the final act delivers satisfying payoffs to carefully planted clues. For fans of character-driven suspense with a strong sense of setting, this novel offers an immersive escape into the darker side of the City of Light.ββββββββββββββββ
