In the seventh installment in the brilliant New York Times bestselling mystery series, canine narrator Chet and PI Bernie Little journey to Washington, DC, and the dog-eat-dog world of our nation's capital.
Chet and Bernie pay a visit to Bernie's girlfriend, Suzie Sanchez, an ace reporter living in far-off Washington, DC. She's working on a big story she can't talk about, but when her source, a mysterious Brit with possible intelligence connections, runs into trouble of the worst kind, Bernie suddenly finds himself under arrest.
Meanwhile Chet gets to know a powerful DC operative who may or may not have the goods on an ambitious politician. Soon Chet and Bernie are sucked into an international conspiracy, battling unfamiliar forces under the blinking red eyes of a strange bird that Chet notices from the get-go but seems to have slipped by everybody else. Most menacing of all is Barnum, a guinea pig with the fate of the nation in his tiny paws.
As Harry Truman famously quipped, "If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog." Too bad he didn't get to meet Chet!

Fun. Humorous. Chet and Bernie forever.
Bernie and Chet books are a fantastic series of mystery novels starring Bernie a private detective, West Point grad and ex military and his dog, Chet, who is the narrator of the stories and maybe one of the best dogs in the world. The books are told from Chet's perspective, great plots plenty of humor great characters LOVE
Nicely written! The adventures keep coming and Chet is always the hero! This book is for anyone who likes a good detective story.
You really have to love this series to put up with the corny titles — but I do love it.This book takes Bernie and Chet to Washington DC where Suzy Sanchez, Bernie’s girlfriend, is working for the Washington Post. The cast of characters includes politicians, spies, “insiders,” and cops of course. Amazing things happen to Bernie and Chet, who are not at home in big cities.Chet’s stream of consciousness is amusing, as always. But stories involving spies and politics don’t interest me as much as missing person cases and murders. So this isn’t my favorite book in the series. But I still enjoyed it — and look forward to the next book. I wouldn’t want to miss any developments in Bernie’s love life, or another great fight scene, or Chet’s opinions on food, human nature, and so forth.
This is on of my favorite Bernie and Chet Mysteries and of course one of the best cozy Mysteries out there. Chet and Bernie head to Washington to meet up with Bernie's love Suzie who now writes for the Washington post. Murder and intrigue promptly ensue and even with larger stakes Chet manages to make his own great dog reasoning and with the help of Bernie try to solve a crime of national importance. While Chet feels Bernie is always the smartest guy in the room he continues to have trouble keeping his lady happy. It reads very well and while I have had trouble dozing off before (perhaps I shouldn't listen to before bed) only to have Audible reread parts this one I never lost attention.
