The worlds of celebrity and sports are brilliantly dissected and turned upside down in the debut thriller from the bestselling author and creator of the hit Netflix drama The Stranger.
Theirs was a marriage made in tabloid heaven, but no sooner had supermodel Laura Ayars and Celtics star David Baskin said "I do" than tragedy struck. While honeymooning on Australia's Great Barrier Reef, David went out for a swim--and never returned.
Now widowed and grieving, Laura has a thousand questions and no answers. Her search for the truth will draw her into a web of lies and deception that stretches back thirty years--while on the court at Boston Garden, a rookie phenom makes his spectacular debut...

Not up to Cobenβs usual standard. Implausible story line and overwrought, turgid language made it seem amateurish and hard to finish. Very disappointing!
This story is a bit of a wild ride. It is not uncommon for fiction readers to need a strong sense of suspended disbelief. But, what happens when your suspended disbelief meets the incredulous? Buckle up for a wild ride as old family secrets suddenly set off a chain of events which unravel old secrets layer by layer. If you can suspend your disbelief through a myriad of details which might otherwise be incredulous, then this nail biter is for you, albeit somewhat predictable. It starts with young superstar lovers who, while on their honeymoon, face tragic events, i.e., the groom's drowning. The death sets a tragic series of events in motion stemming from long buried secrets which come unraveled slowly, layer by layer, before the climactic final secret is revealed.
I have read thousands of books over many many years and the only author to surprise me was Sydney Sheldon. This one I could not put down and did not guess the ending. Highly recommend.
Could not put it down. Absolutely great. The ending as the best part. Highly recommend. Harlan Coben is the bedt.
I love surprise twists and turns in a mystery novel, and this one has plenty. However, for me, there were too many cliff hangers trying to create more suspense. It is obvious that the author has never been pregnant because, toward the end of the book, things just did not make sense to a person who has carried a baby. Sorry, though the book had some good bones. For that, I gave it four stars.
