"Hana Babic is a quiet middle-aged librarian in Minnesota who wants nothing more than to be left alone. But when a detective arrives with the news that her best friend has been murdered, Hana knows that something evil has come for her--a dark remnant of the past she and her friend had shared. Thirty years before, Hana was someone else: Nura Divjak, a teenager growing up in the mountains of war-torn Bosnia#20;until Serbian soldiers arrived to slaughter her entire family before her eyes. The events of that day thrust Nura into the war, leading her to join a band of militia fighters, where she became not only a fierce warrior but a legend: the deadly Night Mora. A story about people we know Little about and the torture that they have faced.I did enjoy reading it, although I didn’t think it was as well written as some of the other books I have read it did keep you interested in .
Never a dull moment in reading this historical fiction! I recall the war in Bosnia that I heard on the news as a young girl. Yet it came alive in a very sad story of the horrendous crimes against the beautiful people of Bosnia, specifically the Muslim people. This is truly a book that I will always remember.
Book had many twists and turns. Nothing was as it appeared
Excellent read! Finished in two sittings.
Avid reader. Rare to write reviews. Excellent read here. Dual time line. Alternating chapters with Bosnian War and “now” in U.S. I can’t say I knew much about the war so this was interesting. The pacing of the book was “chef’s kiss “. Felt connected to the characters. We had Bosnian workers at our hospital (years ago when I worked there) so I wonder what they witnessed. Loved the ending. Quick read.
