"Every sentence of Monica Heisey's writing is a treat. No one makes me laugh like she does." --Dolly Alderton, New York Times bestselling author of Everything I Know About Love

A hilarious and painfully relatable debut novel about one woman's messy search for joy and meaning in the wake of an unexpected breakup, from comedian, essayist, and award-winning screenwriter Monica Heisey
Maggie is fine. She's doing really good, actually. Sure, she's broke, her graduate thesis on something obscure is going nowhere, and her marriage only lasted 608 days, but at the ripe old age of twenty-nine, Maggie is determined to embrace her new life as a Surprisingly Young DivorcΓ©e(TM).
Now she has time to take up nine hobbies, eat hamburgers at 4 am, and "get back out there" sex-wise. With the support of her tough-loving academic advisor, Merris; her newly divorced friend, Amy; and her group chat (naturally), Maggie barrels through her first year of single life, intermittently dating, occasionally waking up on the floor and asking herself tough questions along the way.
Laugh-out-loud funny and filled with sharp observations, Really Good, Actually is a tender and bittersweet comedy that lays bare the uncertainties of modern love, friendship, and our search for that thing we like to call "happiness". This is a remarkable debut from an unforgettable new voice in fiction.
"A prime example of how a storyteller's voice can pull you right in and keep you clinging to every sentence. . . . This is a book I will give to my closest girlfriends and say, 'You have to read this.'" -- Zibby Owens, GoodMorningAmerica.com

I donβt ever leave reviews but I read a lot. This book was slow. I thought about not finishing it more than once. But then I get to page 350 and was so moved and felt like I was watching the big speech from the Barbie movie. Brought me to tears. Worth the slowness of the rest of the book.
terrible book, hate the main character. iβm a big reader & thought it would help me through my breakup after my 6 year relationship but just made me feel worse, tried so hard to finish & got 3/4 through but couldnβt- wouldnβt recommend
This is one of the best breakup books I ever read (and I'm not even going through a breakup!) I love the writing and can't understand how it get less than five stars. I don't know the author or how I found this book but i want to devour everything she's ever written!
such a hard read that took way longer than it shouldβve. Character is so unlikable and tries to be quirky and relatable and comes off as terrible and embarrassing instead. Do better.
There were parts toward the middle and beyond I thought I couldnβt finish I was getting so annoyed with the main character, then realized this was part of the book and I was being a pretentious former English lit major who maybe recognized too more millennial quips than I care to admit . It made me laugh out loud multiple times, even if it made me viscerally annoyed at times too. 3.5 but rounded up to 4 because I also felt I could hear bits of Alexis from Schitβs creek and realized the author is a screenwriter on two of my favorite comedy shows of all time.
