From bestselling author David R. Slayton, Redneck Revenant is an exciting new chapter in the Adam Binder series.
Adam Binder's life has never been better. Sure, he has no money, no car, no home to call his own, and he's worried about creating a future with his boyfriend Vic, but he's closer to his family than ever before. He's also Page to the Elven Court of Swords, and that appointment is not without its perks--like the invisible sword strapped to his back.
But on Halloween night, Adam's life takes a disturbing turn. Annie, his brother's long-lost wife, turns up on her husband's doorstep alive and well, with no memory of her death. But is it really Annie, or a Trojan horse from some new magical enemy?
To uncover the truth, Adam will need help from those he loves most--as well as a couple of friends at Rogue Community College. As he navigates a perilous maze of magical politics and battles terrifying creatures from beyond the known realms, Adam will discover a secret darker and more unsettling than anything he could have imagined.

First off, I want to say that I absolutely adore the Adam Binder series, and Redneck Revenant was a fantastic continuation of it.There’s a very twisty plot in this book, one that made several unexpected turns. Adam is once again caught between powerful forces he doesn’t fully understand, and his sister-in-law’s unsettling return is only one of them. There are also witches going missing from the mortal plane, Lost Ones gathering in the spirit realm, more elven politics, an enigmatic fox-masked being making claims of the Between—a realm that even the elves believe is mere myth—and strange monsters leaking into every plane that shouldn’t be there. Adam has a lot to deal with. But he’s not alone. Vic is a fixture at his side (and one of my favorite characters in the series.) Since this book is set about 3 years after the previous one, Adam and Vic’s relationship has grown. There are a few hiccups along the way, but they’re always there for one another. And Adam always feels safer knowing his boyfriend is not only an ex-cop, but a Grim Reaper. In addition to all the fun fantasy elements and the warm-fuzzy romance, one of the things that I love about this series is the bits of Colorado lore that are thrown in. Previous books mentioned the DIA conspiracies, Lookout Mountain, and one reference to a cheesy restaurant with cliff divers that locals tend to avoid…and only take visitors there for the “experience.” If you’ve been to that restaurant, you know what I’m talking about. But in this book, they visited Red Rocks, a concert venue that is one-of-a-kind and super cool. I grew up in Colorado (and I still live there), so all of these bits of lore just make me happy. And the best part of this book was the ending. It made me smile and felt like a much-needed hug after everything Adam had to endure. This was such a fun book. If you haven’t read the rest of the series, it starts with White Trash Warlock.
I loved this installment in the urban fantasy series centered around Adam Binder and the world of magic which lies just beyond what most mortals see. It was hard to put down with its layered storyline, witty dialogue, surprising plot twists, light romance, and suspense all woven together in a captivating plot. This book picks up several years after the last book ended. Adam has settled into a new normal, working as a mechanic and as the Page of Swords, still dating Vic who is working as a chef, and still living in his brother Bobby’s house. On Halloween, a knock on the door reveals Annie, Bobby’s wife, seemingly back from the dead after three years. Adam, Vic, Bobby, and Dautre, an elf assigned to assist him, investigate Annie’s reappearance and the disappearance of mortal witches at the behest of the King. In the course of the investigation, Adam again gets to unpack a bunch of his past baggage and make deliberate choices about who he wants to be. The story includes what you’d expect from this genre - fighting, dangerous situations, end of the world scenarios, mysteries, paranormal creatures, loyal friends and family, complicated families, painful pasts, mystical coincidences, snark, love, secrets, and laughs. I love this series. 4.5 stars.
It was so comfortable to slip back into this world.A few years have passed since book 3, and Adam and Vic have settled in to each other as they continue to expand and explore their relationship. When the past, literally, comes knocking at their (Adam's brother Bobby's) door on Halloween night, their whole world shifts as change is happening.Coming back to these characters is like visiting old friends with new stories to hear. The kinds of friends where you pick up right where you left off as if you'd only been gone a day and not several years. Their growth is evident as the story progresses (thank you therapy), and their love is so tender. So much healing has been done amongst this group. While at times the plot was tense, it was also measured and didn't rush you through everything. It was a calculated unraveling that was worth every step.I stumbled on this series last year because the name of book 1 was so silly, but fell in love before I'd reached halfway. I can only hope that there are many more stories to tell set around the Binder family. This was definitely worth the time to read.
"Redneck Revenant" is book four in the "Adam Binder" series by David R. Slayton. I enjoyed this book, from the start to the very last page. I absolutely love going along with Adam as he is figuring life out. The relationship between Adam and Vic is so sweet, and I enjoy the fact that they always have each others back. The very first chapter had me gasp at who was standing outside the door. The last chapter had me all in my feelings. I got goosebumps, and it brought tears to my eyes. I chuckled at the saying about the payphone and liked that David included Adam going to therapy. I also liked how this book starts out during Halloween. I look forward to reading the next book in the series when it comes out. David does such a wonderful job writing, and his stories draw me right in.
Change, it would seem, is the single guaranteed constant in this life filled with the unpredictable.Adam Binder’s journey has been relentless. He’s come to accept his place in this world that teeters between the mundane and the extraordinary, the dangerous and the familiar. Now, after all is said and done, there is the revelation of a future so tangible, perhaps entirely fated, that the only option Adam has is to alter it. Or at least do his best to try.The beautiful thing (one of many) about this series is its warlock grappling with his past, the trauma and torment, while rediscovering family and, above all else, finding love. Adam is coming into a sense of belonging, even as his role as Page to the Court of Swords comes with its own challenges. When his sister-in-law Annie suddenly turns up on Adam and Bobby’s doorstep, it confronts every sense of reality and possibility, and begins an investigation that sends Adam into the depths of danger and pits him against powerful forces.Redneck Revenant is a turning point in this series. It gathers Rogue Community College (a must-read) into the fold, and baits the trap beautifully for more of the unexpected and unusual to come.
