A Divine conclusion to the Letters of Enchantment duology. We get dual POV, mounting tension, and a bittersweet conclusion to Roman and Iris' story.~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~Divine Rivals left us wondering about Roman and if he would survive being in Dacre's clutches, where Enva was, was Forest a good guy after all, and what happened to Marisol, Attie, and Keegan? We quickly learn that Attie and Marisol made it out of Avalon Bluff safely and that there is more to Forest than we initially think. It still took me quite some time before I trusted Forest, I believe it was sometime after Iris returned to Oath a second time, following her and Attie returning to the war front a second time. Since Roman is now in Dacres clutches we get dual POV between he and Iris(not just in the letters he writes anymore) which I both enjoyed but also made me nervous at certain points in the story thinking that things were reaching a boiling point). The ante was upped and the stakes were higher but in the end goodness, kindness, and love prevailed over deciet, corruption, and manipulation. Tobias is a new character we meet and who quickly becomes an endearing part of Iris and Attie's travels their second time reporting from the war front. Enva shows up to help Attie and Iris and we learn the fate of 3 divines who were part of the war as well as more of Enva's and Dacre's history. Iris Winnow deserved better loosing her mother, brother, a close friend and nearly losing Roman as well if not for Roman's actions that earned enough of Dacres and his lieutenants trust and her intervening at the perfect time when Roman's fate seemed sealed. Ross wrote an achingly beautiful, angst filled sequel to complete this Letters of Enchantment Duology.
4.25This book was good but not as amazing as the first. Divine Rivals really sucked me into the story while this one seemed to drag and lack something the first had. It was still really good though, and was pretty fast paced. A good finale for the series! Highly recommend :)
This is a story of love during war. Love on opposing sides. Love working together to defeat enemies. Love that is ruthless. And a loved magical typewriter!
Review: Ruthless Vows by Rebecca RossI really enjoyed this book and I’m not ready to say goodbye to these beloved characters just yet. The final installment in the Letters of Enchantment duology is full of heart—filled with tender moments, high stakes, and a love that endures even in the chaos of war.Roman and Iris’s unwavering determination to protect each other and fight for peace was so moving. Their bond, forged through words and tested by distance, is the kind of love story that stays with you. This book carried so much emotional weight, and I know it’ll linger with me for a long time.A beautiful, powerful conclusion to a truly unforgettable story. I loved it.
Wow. Iris is compassionate and brave. She felt so much sadness for in her life that Roman is her hope to push forward into the sunshine. Roman loves so deeply for her that he would go to the ends of the earth for her and did. Towards the ending had me so sad and happy because she did find her happiness with Roman.Favorite Quotes:“Do you ever feel as if you wear armor, day after day? That when people look at you, they see only the shine of steel that you’ve so carefully encased yourself in?“ The problem is… I want to hear from you at all hours. I want to read your words. I am greedy for them. I am hungry for them.”“Which reminds me of one simple thing: how I love to lose to you. How I love to read your words and hear your thoughts that sharpen your mind. And how I would love to be on my knees before you now, surrendering to you and you alone.”“Write me a story where is no ending, Kitt. Write to me and fill my empty spaces.
