I enjoyed the story but felt that the author over wrote ideas and became very repetious. Where one or two pages devoted to certain ideas (especially about family and the meaning of family) would have sufficed, she wrote eight or more. "Less is more."
I really loved this one. It's probably because I am going through my own Origins journey. I think the best books are those that speak to us on a personal level. My "Best Quote Read this Month" came from this book. And no, there's no spoilers:"It didnβt matter to her that the man she called βDaddyβ was not her biological father. He was everything she needed him to be."It was a wonderfully twisted journey.
I didnβt think Iβd ever get through this book! Numerous attempts and finally finished. Ending was good, but the road to get to the end took way too long. Hard to stay focused and kept losing Interest. Iβm a fan of Lisa Unger but just not this book.
Spoilers ahead:I struggled on how to review this book. While the story is compelling and the twists are entertaining, I am a survivor of violence. The amount of enabling and turning an eye on someone committing heinous, violent and voyeuristic acts was a lot to handle. I understand the premise of the story is about family, those you choose and those you are born from and the need to defend, honor and love them through all. It's a beautiful notion in theory, but in the case of these characters, these actions, it was rather deplorable. I recognize my own bias and that I can see only through the lens of a survivor but I'm okay with that. I wear my strength and survivability proudly. This is a hard read if you've been the victim of harassment, assault or worse, so I urge caution. The story was well written, fast paced and an absolute page turner, just proceed at your own comfort.-Heather
I enjoyed this book. It is the first I've read by this author and definitely plan on reading others by her as well.
