Two mysteries in one

Life is complicated. It's fascinating to watch unrelated events woven together to create one story. Change. Solstice. Balance. Growth. People show up for loved ones when times are difficult. Walk in beauty.

Needs Help

Usually, I find Anne Holler man's books hard to put down. Oh, the story was good, but the editing was lousy. There were too many misplaced words making this one hard to read comfortably. Please correct this staff error.

fast thinking Navajo Tribal Police

Anne Hillerman builds her own focus with her father's literary legacy. Main character Joe Leaphorn was Tony Hillerman's creation and the voice of this series. With Tony's passing, his daughter Anne inherited this literary community and has wisely begun sharing their stories through Bernie. Jim Chee remains a major player as Bernie's husband. Even Joe Leaphorn makes reappearances now and again. But it is Bernie who is central to everything here. Anne tells the stories through Bernie's voice. She has her father's gift for story telling, and shares her love and respect for the Navajo people and culture. Again we find Bernie upholding her responsibilities in a male dominated career, acting as an interface between the Navajo way of life and the world outside the reservation. The one thing I found a little lacking was the outcome for Mrs Raymond and her family. Maybe this will be developed more fully in a future book.
