Egged on by a mischievous rabbit, readers are invited to find out what happens if they shake this book really hard. The result? Utter pandemonium! The hippo and moose are jumbled into a hippopota-moose, the ladybug and the pug become a lady-pug, and the koala and the owl become a ko-owl-a bear. But that's just the beginning! Subsequent shakes mean even more jumbling of the disgruntled animals.

The hopelessly mixed-up animals reproach the reader for making such a huge mess--and then implore them to shake the book again to unjumble everybody and put things right. It doesn't happen right away--there's still lots of mix-ups and chaos--but after shaking to the left, to the right, upside down, and all around, the animals are returned to their original forms.
