The book is great, BUT the Amazon packing leaves a great deal to be desired. The book arrived with the dust cover torn in several places.
Reading this book felt like a warm hug, which was odd considering it's a murder mystery. I loved the setting and characters so much. I savored reading this book like a decadent dessert and didn't want it to end. I can't wait to read more in the series!
It's a captivating whodunit story and an easy read. This is the first of a series of 20 books, and this book can be read as a standalone.
Loved the book and I fell in love with the description of the village of Three Pines. For the most part its an idyllic town tucked away in the forest of Quebec and not on any map. Most of the villagers are warm and friendly, except for Ruth the cranky resident poet. She's foul mouthed and needs an attitude adjustment. Evil has found its way into the woods surrounding the village of Three Pines. Armand Gamache, Inspector of the Surete' has been called along with his officers to solve the suspicious death of Jane Neal, longtime resident. It appears to be an accident but turns out to be murder. I read this book 10+ years ago and quickly fell in love with the series. I wanted to re-read all the books in the series before the 20th book The Black Wolf is released in late October 2025. I gave Still Life 5 stars.
