I found the book well-written and thought out. I know you had to rotate crops to not deplete the soil, but I didn't realize that you had to wait four years to use the same plot of land. He details using complementary crops like the three sisters, corn, beans, and squash. Also, each type of crop has different needs regarding sunlight and watering. He also talked about making growth charts and building raised gardening beds.He talks about the differences between heirloom, organic, hybrid, and treated seeds—the last to be avoided altogether as they can deteriorate the quality of your soil.
This book is a comprehensive guide for anyone interested in self-sufficiency and survival gardening. The book covers topics such as raised bed gardening, food storage, and food preservation, making it a complete survival guide for growing your own food. The book is written by an expert in the field, and it provides practical tips and advice on how to grow your own food, even in lousy dirt. Overall, the book seems to be a valuable resource for anyone interested in self-sufficiency and survival gardening.
It’s a bit long. Subjects could be explained a bit better.
Very informative. A lot I already knew being a garden obsessed freak, but was able to learn more and add to my knowledge. I wish there was more of a zone specific aspect to the growing seasons and produce best grown zones to really complete the book, but don't let that deter you from reading.
Just started gardening and this gave me great information to start.
