The version shown here is not what I received. This version might have been an early translation to English. Was NOT suitable for my 6 and 9 year old. Too difficult for them to read. Am returning.
I admire this adventurous tale of a shipwrecked family who were headed to a new life as colonists. They combined hard work, the remains of a well stocked wreck, a fertile island unaccountably populated with a Noah's ark variety of animals, and strong family values. It remains my favorite read after 70 years of avid reading.
This is a true classic that I have read and re-read many times over my 78 years. I grew up in a hands-on family that could build houses, manufacture vehicles, grow crops, and hunt for fossils, so I tried to imagine all that was done to do the marvelous things the Swiss Family accomplished, while still enjoying the entertaining moral tale Wyss wove. Read on, and enjoy!
