Iβd hate to have to leave a bad review on such a good book. I never got the full experience so I donβt know how great the actual thing is, but WILL you stop abridging books?! I figured out it was abridged!!!Well letβs cut to the chase: it. Took. Me. A. Year! A full YEAR, to find out I have been reading AN abridged book! If you abridge a book, youβre taking out all the thought and idea the author put into it for your own pleasure. So stop abridging books and selling them as the originals! If youβre looking for this wonderful book, find another edition (and READ the reviews, especially the 1 star section) or go to your local bookstore and check for yourself. In the original review I wrote a year-and-half ago (the paragraphs before this), I didnβt address what I thought about the parts of the book I read. In my point-of-view, he just kills and kills animals. The geological terrain is crazy. They have everything they need (no challenges). I think I have the solution as to why. Look at the Wikipedia page, youβll find this: βWritten by Swiss writer, Johann David Wyssβ¦the novel was intended to teach his four sons about family values, good husbandry, the uses of the natural world and self-reliance.β So this is why the father is always rambling about his family and values? This is called self-insertion. I guess itβs fine, but he couldβve edited it before publishing it.Additionally, the spine is so flat it almost breaks. The Puffin edition says itβs 84 pages but itβs actually over 500 pages. (Itβs a shame, because it has a nice cover design). If youβre looking for the original translation, check out the Penguin version, it has the original. So many translators have altered the text over the years the translations are different to a very big level. (Edited 2/4/2022)
