The exciting end to The Poppy War trilogy, R. F. Kuang's acclaimed, award-winning epic fantasy that combines the history of twentieth-century China with a gripping world of gods and monsters, to devastating, enthralling effect.
After saving her nation of Nikan from foreign invaders and battling the evil Empress Su Daji in a brutal civil war, Fang Runin was betrayed by allies and left for dead.
Despite her losses, Rin hasn't given up on those for whom she has sacrificed so much--the people of the southern provinces and especially Tikany, the village that is her home. Returning to her roots, Rin meets difficult challenges--and unexpected opportunities. While her new allies in the Southern Coalition leadership are sly and untrustworthy, Rin quickly realizes that the real power in Nikan lies with the millions of common people who thirst for vengeance and revere her as a goddess of salvation.
Backed by the masses and her Southern Army, Rin will use every weapon to defeat the Dragon Republic, the colonizing Hesperians, and all who threaten the shamanic arts and their practitioners. As her power and influence grows, though, will she be strong enough to resist the Phoenix's intoxicating voice urging her to burn the world and everything in it?

This series wasn't the average run of the mill war college or love triangle or strong female lead I thought I was getting into. It was very unexpected and kept me invested. Some parts made me want to turn my head away, but the characters pulled me in their experiences of war are not fantasized, and its felt in the descriptive language. This conclusion definitely shook me to my core, and I felt for every character I've come to know and love this far. Great Read Highly Recommend 👍🏾
Oh I want another !!! I can’t believe how it ended !! Whaaattttt!!! I need more !!Great series for real!! Super pleased and very intriguing
Loved these books, feeling very sad that the series is over - - — - - - - - -
THE ENDING IS GOOD! The last couple of chapters had me feeling all kinds of emotions and it concluded so beautifully
***WARNING SPOILERS*******I had a strong feeling the book was going to end the way it did and I think it was perfect. This triology was extremely well written, the only reason I give it a -0.5 is because I feel everyone’s pain so personally 😭 like I feel emotionally exhausted too. R.F Kuang is a very talented author. She brought me through this tumultuous journey of survival, fear, power, victory, betrayal, love, hate and then some. I love that nothing was black and white. The complexity of the characters and their choices was so powerful. You couldn’t really hate anyone. The enemy and the allies kept changing and the lines became blurred on what was “right”. Rin fought valiantly against those who threatened her country and sought revenge to those who hurt the people she loved. She eventually became her own biggest enemy. Recommend if you are willing on embarking a complex and well written emotionally stressful journey, I thought it was worth it.
