A beautiful clothbound edition of Alexandre Dumas' classic novel of wrongful imprisonment, adventure and revenge.

Thrown in prison for a crime he has not committed, Edmond Dantes is confined to the grim fortress of the Château d'If. There he learns of a great hoard of treasure hidden on the Isle of Monte Cristo and becomes determined not only to escape but to unearth the treasure and use it to plot the destruction of the three men responsible for his incarceration. A huge popular success when it was first serialized in the 1840s, Dumas was inspired by a real-life case of wrongful imprisonment when writing his epic tale of suffering and retribution.

A great story to delve into.

The translation sometimes chooses words that aren’t quite right in English, making it a bit cumbersome. And there are bits that are very slow and not as important to the story as I suspect Dumas intended. However, it’s a timeless tale that keeps you going even at the slower parts. Having seen the movies and series, it was nice to know how the author intended the story to evolve without others’ interpretations. It’s very long, so buckle up!

Amazing Quality Hardcover with the Best Translation, Definitely Worth the Extra Price

Firstly, I started reading The Count of Monte Cristo in different translations, and this by far is superior and so much better to read. The intro and preface are awesome, the index with referenced discussions adds to the story and history. Secondly, this specific hardcover is beautiful and very well made. I love this book, both the story and the physical copy. Definitely get this one over the soft cover it's so worth it!

BEST SELLER!!

Unfortunately, the painted icons were all worn off when I received the book. The seller was very gracious, and although he was unable to send me a replacement, he issued me a full refund AND allowed me to keep the book. Other than the cosmetic issues, this is a fine book. I am very pleased and will gladly order from this seller again!!
