The Dark Forest is the second novel in the groundbreaking, Hugo Award-winning series from China's most beloved science fiction author, Cixin Liu.
In The Dark Forest, Earth is reeling from the revelation of a coming alien invasion-in just four centuries' time. The aliens' human collaborators may have been defeated, but the presence of the sophons, the subatomic particles that allow Trisolaris instant access to all human information, means that Earth's defense plans are totally exposed to the enemy. Only the human mind remains a secret. This is the motivation for the Wallfacer Project, a daring plan that grants four men enormous resources to design secret strategies, hidden through deceit and misdirection from Earth and Trisolaris alike. Three of the Wallfacers are influential statesmen and scientists, but the fourth is a total unknown. Luo Ji, an unambitious Chinese astronomer and sociologist, is baffled by his new status. All he knows is that he's the one Wallfacer that Trisolaris wants dead.

Headline says it all. It’s thought provoking, introspective, and thrilling in the end (a little slow to start, admittedly). I’m starting the next one immediately.
Somewhat dark but a nice ending - strategy won after all . The two axioms of civilization were particularly interesting
I quickly ordered this book after finishing the previous. I found out pretty fast that this book is broken into 3 sections instead of the typically chapters that most books feature. I am not someone who reads often, and due to my inability to focus, I require a chapter ending to keep me engaged (like reaching a milestone). Since there were no chapters I never really knew a good time to stop reading. The book drags on for awhile. It may just be my taste, or my lack of attention span, but this book wasn’t for me.
A little tough to read. Not a happy read. Imaginative.
The ideas in this book take alien invasion stories in a fresh, humanistic direction, but Cixin's style of writing with a Buddhist's reverence for natural phenomena and a university professor's tendency to lecture makes the reading tedious.
