The anticipated sequel to the instant New York Times bestseller featuring escapist romance and a wealthy Black family in 1910s Chicago
Like the blazing Chicago sun, the drama is heating up for the Davenports and their social set. Before the summer of 1910 drops its last petal, the lives--and loves--of these four young women will change in ways they never could have imagined:
Newly engaged Ruby Tremaine is eagerly planning her wedding to the love of her life when a nasty rumor threatens her reputation and her marriage. Olivia Davenport has committed to social justice and secretly hopes she'll be reunited with dashing lawyer Washington DeWight--until her parents decide she's to marry someone else. Amy-Rose Shepherd is making her lifelong wish of owning a salon come true, but when an incident forces her to return to Freeport Manor, she's back in the path of John Davenport, who still holds her heart. Helen Davenport is determined to get over her own heartbreak and bring the Davenport Carriage Company into the new century, even if it means teaming up with a thrill-seeking racecar driver who just loves to get under her skin.
Inspired by the real-life story of the Patterson family, More Than This is the second book in critically adored Davenports series, following four empowered and passionate young Black women as they navigate a rapidly changing society and discover the courage to steer their own paths in life--and love.
"The Davenport universe has history, humor, and heart baked into it." --Kirkus
"Richly portrays the complexities of early 20th century Black society." --SLJ
"With more romance and intrigue . . . as interesting and juicy as ever." --Booklist

I enjoyed this series. I enjoyed the way the author wrapped up the series, though some of it was a bit rushed at the end. At one point, I thought maybe it was going to be another cliffhanger. The characters were enjoyable and I will miss being in their world.
Almost sorry I finished reading both books already! I love the Davenport family, including their close friends Amy-Rose and Ruby. Which is why I enjoyed the books despite mostly unresolved romances. I would still prefer Olivia end up with Washington and I think Helen could do better than her current love interest who confessed to misrepresenting himself. Her parents probably were just too eager to forgive him to secure an acceptable match for their daughter who resisted social conventions. I appreciate the women in this book are shown to be feminist trailblazers in career rather than being simply rebellious.I find the second book a bit unfocused; some characters that proved unimportant should have just been taken out because there are already so many characters to keep track of. Ruby’s dealing with multiple small conflicts as she makes the transition to becoming a bride is realistic, but it seemed the main one, her parents’ issues, wasn’t actively addressed. Ruby didn’t seem to be doing anything to try to resolve it, anyway, though she did hope her fashion endeavors might lead to her restoring their fortunes.I think the book should have spent more time building up the relationship of Amy-Rose with her mentor so we could be more in tune with her feelings toward the woman who did so much for her. But maybe we can learn more about her in the sequel. She and racer Ransom Swift were the two new characters that were most intriguing and should have been developed more.I think it likely with all the little loose ends that there will be a sequel. We need to know not only who the Davenport women will choose but about Amy-Rose’s family connections. And what Washington thinks of Olivia’s inspirational writing.I also wish the books gave more background on the real-life inspirations for the characters to make it easier to look them up. The first book gave anfew, but the second mentions none at all. Perhaps there’s an educatiobal guide to go with these which will be available soon. The main characters and many others are so interesting and likable you can’t help wanting to learn more.
I don't recall ever writing a review on any books before, but really felt the need to do so after reading both the Davenports. I loved the story line of both books about the Davenport family and friends. Couldn't put them down and was sad when they ended. I could really see these characters as I was reading. I hope that Crystal Marques continues their stores in additional novels on them all. In fact, I can see these novels being turned into movies!
This sequel gave me "everything I need and then some", Those were the final words spoken in the book and those words are my sentiments exactly. I enjoyed "The Davenports" and this 2nd book was exceptional! The twists and turns kept me reading nonstop. I could barely contain myself or rather discipline myself to put it down. I say Bravo, Bravo to Krystal Marquis! What a writer! What a storyteller! Thank you for gracing us with your magnificent gift!
This was very good, all I can think of, is what's next. Please continue with book three of The Davenports.
