INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
A New York Public Library Best Book of 2019
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of In a Dark, Dark Wood, The Woman in Cabin 10, and The Lying Game comes Ruth Ware’s fourth novel, “her best yet” (Library Journal, starred review).
On a day that begins like any other, Hal receives a mysterious letter bequeathing her a substantial inheritance. She realizes very quickly that the letter was sent to the wrong person—but also that the cold-reading skills she’s honed as a tarot card reader might help her claim the money.
Soon, Hal finds herself at the funeral of the deceased…where it dawns on her that there is something very, very wrong about this strange situation and the inheritance at the center of it.
Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware’s signature suspenseful style, this is an unputdownable thriller from the Agatha Christie of our time.

I am working my way through all of her books because they are so good. This one doesn't disappoint.
I absolutely loved this book! The feel and tone, so atmospheric and old world gothic. Twists and turns but so much emotion. This is one that will stick with me for a long time! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Absolutely delightful read. I loved the reference to the book Rebecca and Mrs. Danvers which is one of my favorite books. All the characters, the housekeeper, the grandmother, the family members, Hal and her mothers, Maggie and Maud who framed her mystery was impressive and the plot twists were interesting.
Pretty good book. Keeps you wanting to read more to find out what's going to happen next. I might actually read another Ruth Ware book.
I don't want to give away any spoilers or take away from the quality of this book. This is indeed a great book. However, I was left with so many questions as there were several plot holes. Then, there were sections I had to reread over again because it wasn't clear what the author wanted me to believe. Only those who've read the book will understand what I mean by that. Lastly, the book ended in a way that seemed to bring about more questions. I'm not sure how much of it was intentional or not.
