In this gripping thriller, psychiatrist Zoe Goldman, a "smart, heartbreakingly vulnerable, and laugh-out-loud funny" heroine, rushes to uncover the dark and twisted past of a mysterious young patient who can't even remember her own name (Lisa Scottoline, New York Times bestselling author).
In what passes for an ordinary day in a psych ward, Dr. Zoe Goldman is stumped when a highly unusual case arrives. A young African American girl, found wandering the streets of Buffalo in a catatonic state, is brought in by police. No one has come forward to claim her, and all leads have been exhausted, so Zoe's treatment is the last hope to discover the girl's identity.
When drugs prove ineffective and medical science seems to be failing, Zoe takes matters into her own hands to track down Jane Doe's family and piece together their checkered history. As she unearths their secrets, she finds that monsters hide where they are least expected. And now she must solve the mystery before it is too late. Because someone wants to make sure this young girl never remembers.
The Girl Without a Name is a powerful novel of memory and forgetting, of unexpected friendship and understanding...and of the secrets we protect no matter the consequences.

I'm not sure how the free sample of this novel got onto my Kindle, but when I had nothing else to read I checked it out. At first I found the writing chirpy, simplistic, and cliched (aside from the medical terminology, it seems to be written at a 6th-grade level) -- sort of like a beach read -- but by the time the free sample ended it had grown on me.So I read the whole novel and found it enjoyable and well-constructed. (I must say the climactic event [hospital window] is scarcely believable, but hey, suspension of disbelief is the key to enjoying such books.)I enjoyed the novel, and it highlights an important issue that is terribly under-reported and suppressed from public knowledge. People are just starting to wake up to it (part of the Great Awakening), so this book is actually quite timely.
Sandra Blocks best is "Little Black Lies"
Another nicely constructed mystery with Zoe Goldman ... I figured out the ending but not soon enough to destroy my enjoyment of zoe's raveling together of so many disparate pieces into this enjoyable read.
TBE book was named The Girl without a name because she was found unconscious ion a street. The police picked her up and brought her to the hospital and after evaluation she was sent to the psych ward. They called her Jane Doe because she was unconscious and couldn't give them a name. The Dr. 's finally brought her to but she came out with multiple personalities. The Dr. Berringer was in charge of her case and Zoe Goldman was one of the attendings on her case as well. The story takes you through many mysterious The s. Just when Zoe thought she was getting close to finding out who Jane was while working close with Detective Davis the leads came up empty. The answers eventually come out and the outcome will come as a surprise!
This is a page turner and a good beach read. There were enough twists and turns to keep it interesting,
