#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - Nothing is as it seems and everything's fair game in this "deeply engrossing thriller" (The Washington Post) from the undisputed master of the legal thriller.
"The Racketeer is guilty of only one thing: keeping us engaged until the very last page."--USA Today
In the history of the United States, only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five. His body is found in his remote lakeside cabin. There is no sign of forced entry or struggle. Just two dead bodies: Judge Fawcett and his young secretary. And one large, state-of-the-art, extremely secure safe, opened and emptied.
One man, a former attorney, knows who killed Judge Fawcett, and why. But that man, Malcolm Bannister, is currently residing in the Federal Prison Camp near Frostburg, Maryland. Though serving time, Malcolm has an ace up his sleeve. He has information the FBI would love to know. Malcolm would love to tell them. But everything has a price--and the man known as the Racketeer wasn't born yesterday.

This was an unbelievable read which was so hard to put down once I started it. It was one of the best novels ever. I highly recommend it!
Great read by John Grisham. Never disappoints. Clever scheme with some twists along the way. Easy and fairly quick read.
I have always loved Grisham's books and this one tops the list for me. It grabbed me from moment one, mainly because I fell in love with the main characters.I enjoyed very much the detail and the pace of the story. Can't wait for the next book.
A real page turner. I enjoyed it to the last page. If you are a fan of John Grisham you will like this one.
John Grisham's "The Racketeer" ends with a wonderful plot twist. However, it was hard work getting to it, given the "lawyerly" monologue first half of the text and the "minimalist" range of the reader's representation of the characters' voices. Also, for some reason I thought I was getting the unabridged version, but it was just 5 discs (6.5 hours). Given the comments above, perhaps that was a benefit, but I enjoy Grisham's stories so much that I would like to have heard the entire original text to see/hear what a difference that would make.
