From beloved, RITA-award-winning author Kennedy Ryan comes the gripping, passionate finale of the All the King's Men duology.
Though surrender is what Maxim Cade demanded of Lennix Hunter's body and heart, she had other plans. They were fast-burning fascination and combustible chemistry, the son of an oil baron and the Apache daughter at war with his family, but she trusted him, and he turned out to be a thief who stole her love.
Still, if what they had was a lie, why had it felt so real?
Now, the man she swore to hate is about to have it all, and he wants Lennix at his side. But when the two of them are forced to face the unthinkable, their rocky foundation is tested, as is the invisible thread that seems to wind their fates together. As they navigate a treacherous political landscape in their quest for justice, Maxim and Lennix soon learn that power is a game, and they are merely the pawns and players. Facing insurmountable odds, will they win the world, or will they lose it all?

How do you do this in every story!? I’m completely vexed by the characters in this story. I feel for them with them and hate when they are apart. This is just too good! You are too good!
Whew. I went into The Rebel King knowing Kennedy Ryan would deliver emotion and intensity—but I was not ready. I’m still clutching my pearls.Yes, it’s definitely spicier than The Kingmaker (and that’s saying something!), but Kennedy masterfully balances that heat with incredible emotional weight, thoughtful dialogue, and real-life stakes. The romance never feels overdone—it just deepens everything that was already simmering in book one. What truly impressed me was the rhythm of this story. The pacing is sharp, the tension high, and the stakes feel personal and global at the same time. The plot kept me turning pages late into the night. The characters are just as unforgettable—maybe even more so—and the way Kennedy explores power, justice, identity, and love? It’s bold. It’s brilliant. If The Kingmaker lit the match, The Rebel King is the wildfire that follows.Smart, sexy, suspenseful—this book sealed the deal. I’m officially a Kennedy Ryan stan!
I picked The Rebel King up immediately after finishing The Kingmaker, and it was such a perfect conclusion to Maxim and Lennix's love story. I don't know how Kennedy Ryan does what she does, but on paper there are so many things in this book that I don't usually love. It's got a possessive billionaire hero (literally touch her and die vibes), so many twist and turns, I mean it is angsty as heck. BUT it's been almost two weeks since I finished this duet and I am still thinking about it. I told someone this duet gave me Scandal vibes and I stand by that even more after finishing this one. I just loved everything about this so much, that I skipped reading what was next on my list to read Queen Move again because I just wanted to stay in this world!
Nice end to this duet. I really liked the exciting beginning and the emaotional end. That being said, I did have a few things the were slightly annoying in the middle.Lennox was a brat in the middle when Maxim asked her to use security due to a threat against their lives. She pouted and made a stupid argument about being independent 🙄. That's all well and good until someone is threatening ur life. There was also the issue of someone who worked for her that was attracted to her. Again because Maxim asked her to fire him she became recalcitrant, even though, Lennox probably saw that it was problematic. It irritates me when otherwise smart characters do dumb things as a way to further the plot. Lennox is supposed to be some tough, focused campaign manager, but then makes a really obvious mistake by keeping a staff member who is problematic. I think there was a way for the author to have Lennix do the smart thing (fire him), but then have him throw a wrench anyway. (Just my opinion).Overall though good plot, good chemistry between Nix & Max, good side story (Lennix dealing with the pain of here mom, Max dealing with his overbearing dad),
Having a major “I shouldn’t have slept on this” moment.📔 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼: All the King’s Men Duet by Kennedy Ryan📚𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: Romantic suspense, Political romance, second chance romance📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Lennix is an indigenous activist who makes a name for herself running campaigns for candidates she believes in. Maxim is the son of an oil baron, disavowed by his family. The pair meet and instantly spark, but must find a balance between their big dreams and their love for one another.🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: I should be ashamed at myself for how long I took to read this.I adored every single second of this duet. It was recommended by a friend when I posted a clip of Scandal I love, and it completely had that vibe. Lennix is this Olivia Pope- like hero. Maxim is this alpha, rich independent thinker. The characters alone were worth the five-star rating. But the plotttttt! It’s got legit everything. The love story between Lennix and Maxim lasts about 15 years, so you get a whole hell of a lot of angst. Then you have the suspense aspect, and the political backdrop. These two books were actually pretty hardcore page turners. The only thing I’m sad about is leaving this little world Kennedy Ryan wrote. Because it sat perfectly for me and I’m clearly obsessed.📝 𝗔 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲… I only read the duet to start the series. I will read the third story - which focuses on one of the story’s side characters, but thought it was pressing to get this review out.𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲 l 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 3.5/5 🌶🌶🌶
