An ingenious, masterfully written novel, Thomas Harris's The Silence of the Lambs is a classic of suspense and storytelling and the basis for the Oscar award-winning horror film starring Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling and Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Hannibal Lecter.
A serial murderer known only by a grotesquely apt nickname--Buffalo Bill--is stalking particular women. He has a purpose, but no one can fathom it, for the bodies are discovered in different states. Clarice Starling, a young trainee at the F.B.I. Academy, is surprised to be summoned by Jack Crawford, Chief of the Bureau's Behavioral Science section. Her assignment: to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a brilliant psychiatrist and grisly killer now kept under close watch in the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane. Lecter's insight into the minds of murderers could help track and capture Buffalo Bill.

Essentially the same as the movie, but perhaps a few extra "scenes" here and there. Looking forward to reading the next…
One of the best books I’ve read in years. I never read this after seeing the movie which was adapted so well, but the book is even better. I’m not surprised.
This rating is a personal opinion, I'm just sharing it because you might be like minded. It was written very well, it just came from an angle that didn't interest me.I thoroughly enjoyed reading the first book, red dragon, and getting inside the head of both the characters as people. I remember watching the movie, silence of the lambs, and appreciating it so I figured I'd like the book, too. Not so. Where the first book did a really good job of sharing the characters experiences despite a bit of technical procedure, the second book, this book, connects to the characters through technical procedure. There's a lot of character development in this book, too, but it's woven pretty deeply into technical procedure, and feels more like a character study then experience. There are lots of people who would love that, and if you're one of those people, you'll love this book and will probably be able to extract more to like about it then I was able to. But, if you're like me, looking to get inside the mind of a killer through back alleys that circumnavigate procedure, like Will Graham, maybe this book will miss the mark for you, too.
I just finished the book, had already read the first one in the series The Red Dragon. Now on to book three. As far as a review for this one, like my headline forgot the movie, the book is more... the movie adds stuff that wasn't needed, and left out stuff that was. But the book was an excellent read even if you had seen the movie first.
Excellent! I couldn’t put it down. Finished in two days. Fantastically written!
