This is not my typical read. I tend to go for fantasy & romance & romantasy. Sometimes I'l read biographies and more. I found this author on his Threads account l Hello apple snack gang) and the excitement he had for apples (things we tend to take for granted) was refreshing. So I started to peek at his stories and the plot of this one grabbed me. So I decided to do a spooky read for Halloween. Life got in the way a little SO I started after the 31ˢᵗ but l am glad l read it. The characters were compelling and it was easy to find yourself as one of the friend types. The plot was great and had twists & turns every where. I did not see it ending the way it did. Though I really enjoyed his ending. I will read more of his work in the future and not just for Halloween!
Gripping story. Characters that are flawed but that you still hope succeed. I look forward to reading more Chuck Wendig stories.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this but I took a chance and turns out I LOVED it. If you're a fan of horror like I am I really recommend this. It has flavors of "It", "Cube", and "Abattoir" while still being uniquely its own. The characters are three-dimensional and believable, and the story is never boring. I couldn't put it down!
There's an urban myth about all these lone staircases in the woods leading to nowhere and Wendig has taken that idea and ran with it. He is not one of my favorite authors so I bought this warily, but I am a sucker for phantom staircases in the woods (who isn't?). I think he largely pulled it off. As in his other books, I think he's a little light on characterization but it was a very entertaining ride. Might take a chance on his next book as well.
I found the premise of the book to be interesting but the actual story felt a bit confusing with an ending that just added to my uncertainty.
