Humanity is under assault by malevolent "antimemes"--ideas that attack memory, identity, and the fabric of reality itself--in this whip-smart tale of science-fiction horror, an entirely reimagined and expanded version of the beloved online novel.

They're all around us, hiding in plain sight.

One could be in the room with you now, just to your left. You could be seeing it right now--but from this second to the next, you'll forget that you did. If you managed to jot down a note, the paper would look blank to you afterward.

These entities can feed on your most cherished memories, the things that make you you--and you'll never even know anything changed.

They can turn you into a living ghost--make it so you're standing next to your spouse, screaming in their ear, and they won't know you're there.

They're predators equipped with the ultimate camouflage, living black holes for information, able to consume our very memories of their existence.

And they aren't just feeding on us. They're invading.

But how do you fight an enemy when you can never even know that you're at war? How do you contain something you can't record or remember?

Welcome to the Antimemetics Division.

No, this is not your first day.

What are you talking about?

Must read for SCP lovers. I'm pretty sure I've read this, but for some reason I can't remember anything about it, or even if I ever actually bought it, or where it might be in my house. Hmm, not sure I can actually read at all. Where am I? Who am I?

Most imaginative science fiction I've read in a while; possibly ever

I was not familiar with the Foundation/SCP universe before reading this book (and to date still have not gone down the internet rabbit hole, though I plan to now), so it's not necessary to have that base knowledge to follow the plot. I was intrigued by the description, and I'm extremely glad I picked this book up.This is hands-down the most imaginative science fiction I've read in a long time, possibly ever. I feel like it cracked my brain open and exposed it to pure oxygen. This is one of those books that has changed the way I think about the universe and how we fit into it. The writing was excellent, and the descriptions of the manifestations of various anomalies is viscerally and existentially terrifying, with allusions to the fourth wall that don't directly address the reader, but ask them to question their own perception of reality and the nature of the universe itself. This is a must-read for science fiction/horror fans who are looking for something that is a little more abstract than aliens, body horror, and sociopolitical allegory (which are also great! This is just something else entirely). Definitely picking up this author's other works asap.

Delivers on its premise in every way imaginable

I hope qntm is reading this! I love the way you portrayed gaps in memory. Being able to write something with leaps and rewinds, and still end with a narratively satisfying product, is an incredibly impressive task. It's not just the cohesion of the biggest chunks, it's the small stuff. Anytime a character is piecing together memories and information, you construct the flow of the writing to fit the often messy nature of that kind of thought. That fog of inconclusiveness, the fading thoughts and feelings coming back either slowly or in sudden bursts, it's all done so beautifully! I really enjoyed the world you've built, and ik it's based on SCP, but the antimemetics division isn't just a single add-on, it's a complex intertwining history! Chef's kiss!

great book!

very small in the hand, but a great size.an amazing read, as someone already familiar with the scp universe this just expanded it with so much charm and mystery (i didnt really pay much attention to the antimemetics division or that subset of scps, im more of a sarkic person) that really gripped me. even if you're not into scps or have any clue what that might be, i would still greatly recommend reading this if you enjoy mystery, cosmic horror, "secret societies", and nonlinear narratives.

An Utterly Astonishing Read

I loved this book. The ideas that are explored within the story were incredibly interesting and novel to me in a way that I would only expect to come from the mind of the most transitional generation that is the makeup of Millennials. The concepts were fresh and engaging, and I'm amazed that the author was even able to put them into words, esoteric as the ideas are. It will fill you with the deepest sense of dread with the cosmic horror aspects. I found my heart beating with total terror as I considered how horrid the concepts would be if they were actually *real*. Part of me wonders if they actually might be, because it's the kind of thing that can't be known for certain. The story goes over ideas that don't spread easily, antimemes, and a division within the SCP framework that deals with entities that are of this nature. The way the story comes together with its willingness to be told outside of typical chronological storytelling, gave me the sensation of being a detective trying to piece together an absolutely strange casefile. It was fun work and incredibly gratifying. I learned a lot more about what makes us human and parts of ourselves that are difficult to look at without confusion. Parts that are within each and every one of us but often ignored. The scale of the events in the book get up to the multiversal level, and the supernatural elements are blended with science to keep it fresh and engaging.Having read about 28 books this year, many of them fiction and nonfiction, many of them Sci-Fi, this is probably the best book I have read in 2024. I can't express the joy that I've experienced reading it and I'm looking forward to exploring more of this author.A Note: The version I read is no longer on Kindle format on the site because the author recently got a publishing deal which requires the elements connecting it to SCP to be reforged. That said, he is coming out with a new version at some point next year that will not contain those elements, with many other changes, so if you want to read this version you'll have to get the paperback version or read the originals on his website which can be found online. That said, for me this is incredibly awesome because I get to read a completely revamped and retold version of it *again* next year. Leaving this note because it clearly modifies the review.
