"Gorgeous.... With her trademark passion, wit, and fierce feminism, Natalie Haynes gives much-needed voice to the silenced women of the Trojan War."--Madeline Miller, author of Circe
Shortlisted for the Women's Prize for Fiction, a gorgeous retelling of the Trojan War from the perspectives of the many women involved in its causes and consequences--for fans of Madeline Miller.
This is the women's war, just as much as it is the men's. They have waited long enough for their turn . . .
This was never the story of one woman, or two. It was the story of them all . . .
In the middle of the night, a woman wakes to find her beloved city engulfed in flames. Ten seemingly endless years of conflict between the Greeks and the Trojans are over. Troy has fallen.
From the Trojan women whose fates now lie in the hands of the Greeks, to the Amazon princess who fought Achilles on their behalf, to Penelope awaiting the return of Odysseus, to the three goddesses whose feud started it all, these are the stories of the women whose lives, loves, and rivalries were forever altered by this long and tragic war.
A woman's epic, powerfully imbued with new life, A Thousand Ships puts the women, girls and goddesses at the center of the Western world's great tale ever told.

I followed a trail from my favorite book “Circe”, of authors concerned with female heroines in Greek myths. This book gave a splendid tour of the Trojan war through the eyes of wives and daughters. The work this author put into the character development and story building shows clearly.
This book was out of my normal, and I absolutely loved it. Got me thinking, I loved the different point of view.
A beautifully structured story about the women within the Trojan War. Their stories are not often told from this period. We see the tragic and heroic stories of the men on the battle field but not often are we focused on the ones who watch from the city or the ones waiting in Greece for their family, or even the gods who looked from above. I really enjoyed this. I like the constant jumps between sides and time helps really round out the story. Even seeing certain events from the gods point of view help humanize and piece together the overall story.
Loved this account of a mystery tail we all have touched on but never really grasped. These women deserved this book and so many more. Tails of courage and strength need to be heard now more than ever. Thank you for this story
I adored this book and the telling of the women, who were both victims and heroes. I would highly recommend it to anyone. The writing is beautiful and the stories are mesmerizing.
