These two books kept me up late into the early morning hours. Kylie sure has some deep secrets. These secrets lead to betrayal from someone she trusted. The star players are Mark, Daan, Fiona, Oli, Seb, and, of course, Kylie. Can't give too much detail without giving away the secret. Let's just say you won't see some of the twists coming. The characters are realistic and relatable. You can feel their emotions. These books and the first book are well worth your time to read.
This was a good book BUT I was unaware that this is actually the SEQUEL to Last Woman Seen which was very very disappointing because nowhere is that mentioned until the author’s notes at the end of the book. Technically it can be a standalone, I supposed, but I felt vaguely confused while reading like I was missing something and I also felt key details got revealed really fast so it felt like a let down (I’m assuming the key details are revealed in the first book and that confusion would have been eliminated). On its own the book felt lackluster with an odd format, like it was less than what I’m used to from Adele Parks who I think is a phenomenal writer. I absolutely think I would have loved this had I known it was a sequel and I’m very disappointed with the publisher and the author that this is not clearly stated from the get go. So can you enjoy it on its own? Sure but it’s not as good as her other writing. I’ll eventually read the other one but I feel like it will be less enjoyable if read 2nd. So I only recommend this if you’ve read the first one.
Kylie/Leigh/Kai is missing and presumed dead, with her second husband, Daan, as the prime suspect. Police discover she was held captive for a long time in an empty apartment in their building. The case is particularly shocking because she was married to both Daan and her first husband, Mark, at the same time—making her a bigamist.Things get more complicated when Kylie’s best friend, Fiona, unknowingly starts dating Daan, not realizing he is married to Kylie. After Kylie’s disappearance, Fiona moves in with Mark, helping him care for his sons—and perhaps getting closer to him in other ways.As the story unfolds, we meet Kylie’s husbands, her stepchildren, Fiona, and the detectives on the case. Meanwhile, a new character, Sadie Jones, emerges. Recently treated for brain cancer, she is left with temporary amnesia and struggles to remember her past while living with her father. For some time, Sadie’s story seems unrelated to Kylie’s. However, as the narrative develops, connections begin to emerge, leading to a more sinister and complex truth than initially anticipated.Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book!
I had just finished reading Lies, Lies, Lies, and was excited to read another book by this author. This one wasn't up to par. I was about 3/4 of the way through and started skipping sections just to find out how it ended. It just didn't keep my attention, and the only characters I cared about were the children. I am disappointed, since I wanted to love this one as much as the last one.I also didn't like that COVID was in the book. It wasn't necessary for the plot.I think some additional editing may have helped, but this one just wasn't my cup of tea.
Easy read.
