A super-powered collision of extraordinary minds and vengeful intentions--#1 New York Times bestselling author V. E. Schwab returns with the thrilling follow-up to Vicious.

Magneto and Professor X. Superman and Lex Luthor. Victor Vale and Eli Ever. Sydney and Serena Clarke. Great partnerships, now soured on the vine.

But Marcella Riggins needs no one. Flush from her brush with death, she's finally gained the control she's always sought--and will use her new-found power to bring the city of Merit to its knees. She'll do whatever it takes, collecting her own sidekicks, and leveraging the two most infamous EOs, Victor Vale and Eli Ever, against each other.

With Marcella's rise, new enmities create opportunity--and the stage of Merit City will once again be set for a final, terrible reckoning.

Praise forΒ Vicious

"Schwab's characters feel vital and real, never reduced to simple archetypes...In a genre that tends toward the flippant or pretentious, this is a rare superhero novel as epic and gripping as any classic comic. Schwab's tale of betrayal, self-hatred, and survival will resonate with superhero fans as well as readers who have never heard of Charles Xavier or Victor von Doom."--Publishers Weekly (starred review)

"V. E. Schwab'sΒ Vicious is the superhero novel I've been waiting for: fresh, merciless, and yes, vicious. Wow."--Mira Grant, New York Times bestselling author of Blackout

the most okay-est of books

V.E. Schwab has managed to write another book that just… okay??? In theory, her ideas are incredibly original and should be 5/5, but somehow she manages to execute the vision like 65%. Vicious is by far the best book she has written and even that was just good? Don’t feel connected to any of the characters or worlds or plots.

Vengeful Indeed!

I thought that Vicious was dark and twisted, but Vengeful went even further. The gray areas are all but black at times, and I still found myself cheering for... the villain?Victor is just as calculated as ever, with a singular focus. Although he still manages to show humanity when it concerns the very small number of people he cares about. His vengeance from Vicious turns out to not be as sweet as he thought it would be, with his actions leading to some seriously chilling consequences.Eli is just psycho, but magnetic as well. The author does such a good job of making you care for even this evil villain, to the point where you cheer for him too at one point. The real driving force of this one is June though. She ties all of these loose threads together and helps to bring the plot to an epic climax that had my heart racing. That ending though... I am almost positive that something crazy happened. Although it is really hard to tell what... Good thing the author is finishing up writing on book three this year!

Obsessed is an Understatement

I am absolutely obsessed with this book! It kept me hooked from start to finish. The characters, the plot twistsβ€”everything was just perfect. Highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good villain-centric story.

Disappointed

I was so disappointed by the book. I loved Vicious. This just felt liked it dragged on for nonsense followed by more nonsense. There didn’t need to be a second book. Vicious told the story. This didn’t add anything of value.
