For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life—until the unthinkable happens.
Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

I loved every word. My heart aches for Kya. A gentle heart in a cold world. I would recommend this to anyone.
Read before watching the movie. Now we've passed it between my mom, my sister and myself!
This book is more than just another page turner. It’s a deep analysis of human nature within nature. It has beautiful imagery and poetry, romantic love and elements of a survival story. It gives the reader a sense of how we are all connected to each other and to nature. It’s also unpredictable. Like life, it keeps us guessing until the end. I recommend it to everyone who loves to read stories about being human. Read this book!
Raw and heart wrenching. Real and true. Love lost and found. Beautiful language. A lovely book. One for the bookshelf.
This was an excellent read and it amazes me how she survived during these times. Thor’s exhibits strength, courage and resilience. She had to raise herself and in the end she had to protect herself as well. She was smart in being a marsh girl and used her labels that people put on her wisely.
